I had my eye on DMS 40's, but...
« on: November 27, 2004, 07:58:18 PM »
then I saw KYB-AGX's offered at primitive racing for $155 each. My question is: does anyone have any experience with these struts? Dom, don't you? what about stylesrex? didn't you put a set in?
What springs do you guys use?
If icould get decent results at the track with the KYB's, that would leave me money for power mods....
I'd appreciate any advice.

i too have agx's in my car... . love em!   origianlly i had H&B, or where they H&R?  ( i dont recall)   springs in them.   but i found out that kyb is very strick about warranty and if the cars been lowerd to much, and the prings in there lowered them below what they would warranty.  so i put the stock springs back in.  the stock springs could be better... but at least i can adjust how i want the car handle.

Pat, I am not totally thrilled with the AGX's on the WRX. I put them in Style's car and I really thought they were too soft. And for the WRX they only have 4 click TOP adjustabilty. Not good. For the RS though...I love them.  Maybe you could look into fitment or RS rears on an 02-up. I know b4 AGX's were out for the WRX (and b4 I got my DMS's...more on that in a sec) Teague's told me I could just run RS shocks. I guess I just need the steel braided brake lines since the mounts were on the wrong side or something.

Yeah, and DMS 40's. DON'T DO IT. I had to have mine rebuilt 4 times and now the guy who bought my car is always bitching to me about them.  I guess the problem would be called "stiction". They were fine for hard driving but when it came to normal driving they wouldn't move under small bumps, but not because they were too stiff. Because in the same respect, they wouldn't return to full height either. You could pull up on the wheel well and watch the car come up a 1/2" or more and rest at the correct height.  Oh yeah, and they rust really fast too not that you have to worry about that or anything.

Sorry I didn't have better news or advice, but I hope I helped.

Well, salt air isn't the best for preventing corrosion...
Thanks for all the input. Looks like I'm back at square one.
Tein maybe? Brakes and suspension is definitely next on the list...

ive had my AGX's for almost a year now and i love them.  im running whiteline springs similair drop to eibach somewhere around 1.3" i think.

i agree with the softness but i believe the struts were set on a conservative 1&1 front, rear setting.  with the adjuster set to 1 and 1 i thought they were alil firmer than stock. i recently turned them up to 3&3 and the differnce is night and day.  IMHO after driving a stock STi i thought my car had significantly less body roll!!!

ps.  155 each is a steal!!!! i paid 550 for mine
pss.  hows the front lip? do you stil have it ?

Yeah, I still have the lip. I cracked it on a bad dip in the road (the roads and transitions in and out of parking lots SUCK out here), but it's not too bad. I might ditch it though. I think its elevatong my intake temp.

Quote me now while I'm feeling good about it.  I've decided a WRX will be the vehicle that replaces the Jeep.  I can't see paying Evo prices or justifying purchasing a halfassed/beat to death example for the same asinine amount of money.  For an affordable, point to point, all-weather capable performance car, a wagon fits the bill.  A swapped wagon, even better.

I have AGX's with eibach's and STi topmounts on my GC. Love 'em. On 1 they ride like stock and get a lot stiffer from there. I normally drive with them set 2 in the front and 3 in the rear. Good balance of ride quality.

nice. Thanks guys. I ordered slotted rotors from him, and if that transaction goes well, I'll be buying struts too...Whats the spring rate on the eibach springs?
