I use this guy for my XBox1 - its treated me real well: Seagate Backup Plus Slim 2TB USB 3.0 Portable External Hard Drive

https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822178435

Thanks for the recommendation
I was actually just looking at some Seagate externals last night. There's a 4tb version for $130 on amazon made for the xbox, that comes with a code for 2 months of Live that I could pass off to my son, along with my current 500gig drive. Might go that route, should be plenty of room for a long time

Bit the bullet and bought a new TV with LGs Black Friday sale:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B073K3LPGF/

Would've really liked to have gone with 65", but I couldn't justify the 50-55% premium on it right now. Maybe in a few years, I'll retire this one to "bedroom" television duty (to replace the old Samsung 40" LCD circa 2008/2009) and pick up a 65+ as the main unit.

A couple "flaws" that make this less expensive is the speaker config (40W @ 2.0 vs 2.2), silver bezel, and no onboard Dolby Atmos. The speaker config is easily curable with a proper speaker setup (who buys this kind of television to use built-in speakers?), Dolby is curable with external devices (e.g., streamers, BR players, etc.) that have it, and the bezel, while I'd prefer black, isn't enough of a deal-breaker to make me spend a few hundred dollars more.

Also picked up a Logitech Harmony Companion (NOTE: if you include an Amazon Echo Dot, you get that as well, and save $12 vs just the Logitech) and an AppleTV 4K. I've wanted a nice universal remote for a while, and figured while I'm already in this deep, now's the time to finally buy it. I like my OG AppleTV, and with Amazon Video supposedly finally coming over, figured I may as well get myself prepped for the new Grand Tour season coming up.

The last piece of the puzzle is debating whether or not I want to pick up just a regular 4K Blu-Ray player or one of the new XBOX1 Xs. It's been years since I've played games (I haven't even hooked up my 360 since I moved back to Albany in mid-2015), but I used to play a lot; I miss it a bit, but not sure I want that kind of investment right now.

Good choice, I've been extremely happy with my LG OLED

My 2 cents on the bluray/xbox debate:
I bought a mid level 4k player when I bought the tv, was never satisfied with it. Played alright, controls were just frustrating though.
"good" ones at the time were like $400+
Since switching to the xbox one x as my bluray player I'm much happier with the controls, and it's played everything flawlessly so far.  Upscales as well as the Samsung player did.
If I had neither to start, the xbox would've been the no brainer choice for me

That said, a quick amazon search shows some good sales on 4k hdr players under $200 right now...so, yeah, kind of a tough call if no interest in gaming

P.S.
Good call on the aftermarket remote. I didn't see if your lg tv came with the "magic remote", but mine did and I've never been able to get it to work properly with my receiver, or the old bluray player.  Just constantly tries to keep taking me through the universal remote setup any time i try

Nice pile of stuff.  For my 2 cents, I'd also get the XB1x as my player.  I've never had a blu-ray player, and my dvd player is still a PS2.  I only watch a physical DVD 2-3 times per year.  (Always watch The Best Christmas movie, Die Hard, during the holidays).

I've been debating upgrading to 4k and an XB1x pretty hard. I just can't justify it at the moment since my 5yr old LED tv does just fine with my XB1 and PS4.

I have no doubt there's a difference I would see and experience, I just don't know what I'm missing at the moment so its harder to make the jump.

My TV was also like $3k when I bought it.. So getting a way better one for $500 still makes me butthurt.

A funny, but fair point. I remember spending around 2 grand on my old Sony 47" (I think) 1080p with a slow and jittery refresh rate.

I'm still using my 37" Visio from 2007 ($750).  720p, relatively fast refresh.  It's like a 3" thick "flat" tv.  I have always had small living rooms with couch close to TV so it never bothered me.  I very briefly had a 47" 1080p, and even though the picture quality was better, the sound quality was way way worse.  Yes, I use stock speakers because I can't be bothered to put a system together.

The sound on my Sony was actually really damn good, even the simulated surround was fair.
Vizio has some surprisingly great tvs for cheap, but i've yet to watch one that has decent sound. To be fair though I haven't really listened to any in the past year or two
But you can grab one of their 4K's and save enough money to buy an okay sound system to go with it. I was tempted by them myself before seeing the difference in contrast ratio with an OLED vs LED

I'm still quite happy with my 5.0 Polk setup after... I dunno, 5 years?
I don't see a need for Atmos or even 7.1 in this room. And the front speakers are big enough that a separate sub really isn't needed. Especially in an apartment building with thin walls and hardwood floors.

Did suck having to shell out for a whole new receiver to work with the 4k though. That was an expense I hadn't thought about when I started shopping

When I worked for one government agency, they kept track of what devices were used to access their website.  At the time, we had enough traffic from Playstation 3's to warrant compatibility testing with the PS3 web browser, but they wouldn't let me get one.   :buck2:

Was that traffic primarily between March and June?

I can't remember, I saw monthly reports.  It was in the "top 10" for 8 or 9 of the 10 months I saw.

Was watching several items for black Friday, and I'll peek again today for the Cyber Monday ones.  This is the only thing I pulled the trigger on.  An F40 to join the 430, Gallardo, and Caterham in my garage on my desk at work.
