Subaru Safety Recall Merged Thread

http://detnews.com/article/20110910/AUTO01/109100384/Honda--Subaru-recalling-800-000-vehicles#ixzz1XdrERsH4

Quote
Subaru said it was issuing two recalls covering about 400,000 recalls. One covers 300,000 vehicles sold or registered in 20 states — including Michigan, Ohio, New York — and Washington, D.C., to replace potentially rusty brackets on the underside of the vehicles.

The recall covers the 2002-2007 Impreza, 2003-2008 Forester and 2005-2006 Saab 9-2x. Subaru said it had reviewed complaints of front lower control arms broken at hanger brackets due to corrosion caused by road salt.

Dealers will inspect the front lower control arms and will rust-proof them or replace them with new ones. Owners will be notified by early November.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration had opened an investigation into the issue in April after receiving seven complaints, including two failures on the highway at high speeds.

The second recall covers 195,000 2010-2011 Legacy and Outback to replace the windshield wiper bottom cover, which could catch fire or stop working.

Subaru said it received a complaint of smoke from a wiper motor in January and began an investigation. Owners will be notified by November.

Guess I'll call the dealer in November to see if my car qualifies. Doubt ill get a notification since I'm the second owner. Thanks for this.
Eric

Quote me now while I'm feeling good about it.  I've decided a WRX will be the vehicle that replaces the Jeep.  I can't see paying Evo prices or justifying purchasing a halfassed/beat to death example for the same asinine amount of money.  For an affordable, point to point, all-weather capable performance car, a wagon fits the bill.  A swapped wagon, even better.

Car could look ugly real fast, if a front control arm were to break.....

I'd thought the 9-2X's had the aluminum control arms from the STi?  They're talking about the rear mount point, I assume?
If so, I'd imagine ANY impreza should be looking at this issue.

You're most likely going to have to contact corporate for any type of reimbursement.

Recall notices usually have info on what to do if you have already paid for the repair and are seeking reimbursement.

No the Saabaru's have the STI steering rack ..

IF I can , Fred I would like to make an appointment to get it checked out , when the recall comes out in Nov..  I don't trust Goldstein, I see how their techs abuse thier equipment,  I would be very  leary letting them work on my car....

http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/acms/docservlet/Artemis/Public/Recalls/2011/V/RCDNN-11V464-9833.pdf

Kinda funky on the wording on the replacement of the part,,  If it's not bad we'll rust proof it .. If it's bad we'll replace it ...  But what good does replacing it do  with a stock part if it's just gonna happen again. If Subaru puts the new part on shouldn't they rust proof the new part, If needed?

I still have to do the fuel line recall. The dealer where I use to live was full of retards. Now that I'm in between capital land and new country Subaru I can actually have it done.

Always a good idea to check, but I believe dealers issue notices, based on VINs , using current DMV registration.

here is an update, pushing back info until the end of the month.

WVX-34 Safety Recall affects 2002-2007 Impreza (except STI) and 2003-2008 Forester models sold, currently registered or ever registered in 20 States and Washington D.C. Repairs involve inspection and either replacement or corrosion treatment of the front lower control arms (transverse link). If the vehicle is driven after the front lower control arm deforms due to rust, the front lower control arm can break, resulting in loss of control of the vehicle and a possible collision.
The 20 affected states are as follows: CT, DE, IA, IL, IN, MA, MD, ME, MI, MN, MO, NH, NJ, NY, OH, PA, RI, VT, WI, WV. plus D.C.
Continued…

• The Campaign Bulletin will be released in late October.
• Information concerning materials and equipment needed to perform inspections and repairs associated with this recall will be released in late October.
• Owner notification letters will begin mailing early to mid November.
• Dealer affected VIN lists will be mailed to dealers prior to mailing of the owner notification letters.
• Affected VINs will be updated to show applicability to the recall when performing a “vehicle coverage inquiry” through Subarunet around the time of owner notification, early to mid November.

well the parts have finally arrived so we can begin this recall.

Basically the recall will consist of testing the control arms to see if they will need to be replaced or coated.  If the control arms pass the test, they get treated with a Undercoat type material.  If they fail the control arms are replaced.

Subaru recommends that you leave the car with us,  since treating the control arms takes a little over an hour,  and replacing them requires about 3 1/2 hours to complete.

You should be getting the letter from subaru  to advise you about this recall in the next few weeks, they are sending out the letters in 3 phases, but if you have not recieved a letter feel free to call us with you VIN# and we can verify it for you.

To call and make an appointment call 518-399-9990  Direct line to the Service Dept.

Thanks
