I MIGHT have tweaked a valve, because one cylinder doesn't like low-RPM high load (it afterfires alot).  But still, not bad enough to cause any significant issues.

I'd say a cylinder misfiring, owing to a damaged valve, would constitute a pretty significant issue.

It's not bad enough to trigger a CEL, it only stumbles every now and then, and it only blow fire out the leaky gasket every once and a while (mostly when revmatching for a downshift).  :uglystupid2:  I don't actually know if it's a valve (I don't think it is), my guess is after 230k, the rings have just disintegrated and I have no compression.  It would also explain the above average oil consumption.  Really the only notable difference was the valvetrain was a bit quieter.

False.  Not all Subaru engines are interference.  But I am pretty sure that it takes 45 hours to change spark plugs on all Toyota Supras.

LOL.  "All supras".  Sigh.  Not this again.

Yes, I understand that not ALL subie engines are interference, but the EJ255 is.

Non-Interference Subaru engines would be the old 1.2L out of the Justy, 1.8L, 2.2L, 3.3L out of the SVX and  the old 2.7L out of the early XT.

I get em all?

That sounds like either boost cut or knock response - like severe knock response.

My bet would be ignition coil/misfire related trouble or an issue such as knock/boost cut.  Anything more than that, I wouldn't want to speculate.

So with the possible exception of the 3.3 from the SVX, none of the Subaru engines that are a) common or b) exist in the snow belt?  I've never seen a Justy or an XT.

OT, it does sound a lot like a spark issue, whether from timing of breakage, who knows?
