Pepsi Refresh for HVCC's FSAE team
« on: December 02, 2011, 10:38:43 AM »
I'm going to assume most people here know what FSAE is, but for those who don't, a quick synopsis:  teams of students (usually engineers) build 1/4 scale F1 cars, and then compete against other schools.  FSAE stands for Formula SAE, SAE being the Society of Automotive Engineers.

FSAE website: http://students.sae.org/competitions/formulaseries/about.htm

Anyway, HVCC is attempting the insane.  We don't have a car, we don't have experience, we don't have a particularly cooperative school, and we don't have money.  Plus, we've decided to go to Michigan in the summer, so we have less than a year to make the car.  If we do, we would be the first 2 year school to actually make it to the competition.

But, we need supplies, and supplies come with costs.  We contacted Pepsi, and got into their Refresh project, but we need votes!  If you don't agree, that's fine, but if you could spread it around, that would be amazing!

Thanks to all,
Here's the link.

Yeah...  We've run into similar issues, like the people who control our account don't know what it is we're doing and take 3 weeks or more to allow the cash to go.  We've got work-arounds, though.

I'm not enthused about the voting process I'm seeing.   :x

Ehh.... Yeah...  I didn't set it up, but I don't think there was any other option...  I'll be honest.  I voted using a text.  I don't want a Pepsi account either.

eh, what the hell, I have unlimited texting  :crazy2:

(I was worried it might result in me being on some texting advertisement list from pepsi, but after sending it gives the option of having to reply if you want to receive future promos, rather than automatically signing you up for them )

Good point, I should have mentioned that.  Makes people less worried about getting text-spammed.

I just read the TOS, and the "Post as you" that it asks for is one time, so that it can post the idea.

Ah the joys of FSAE.  I miss driving and working on the car.  I don't miss the nasal-voiced arrogance of asshole dweebs, the nonsensical approach to R&D or the idiocy involved in trying to convince people who've never built or tuned a car in the real world, that while turbocharging a motorcycle engine sounds like a great idea, care must be taken in the tuning process.   I'm sure things have come a long way since the assholes decided to ignore me and blow up several R6 engines before they figured things out on their own.

Be prepared to experience the taste of the real world - sacrificing shitloads of your time, some money and sense of patience to deal with dickheads who know far less than they believe they know, but will blame everything on you and cover their ass, since YOU built their shitty design and it's obviously a fabrication problem.  Just like the real world.

These images are actual illustrations from Toyota's Mr2 Service Manual.  No, really.

Thankfully we're a self-contained club.  The only people there are ones whose sum total of knowledge is pretty close to nil, so everybody wants to learn.  We aren't delivering to anyone, we're building it for us, so the only people we can blame if we fail is us.

As for FI, we ruled it out anyway, since the turbo would have to be behind the 20mm (19 on E105) restrictor.
