but the guy who takes a bone stock car, ditches the airbox and attaches the cone to the MAF is doing it wrong.
I did that on the MR2. Then again, it's an old AFM-style unit where there's a flapper plate inside it. Doesn't really make a difference there for turbulence or anything - just goes straight into the turbocharger anyway.
Okay, on my list of pet peeves: Aftermarket Blowoff Valves. I don't care if it's vent-to-air, 100% recirc or some fancy 50/50 unit. The stock valve works just fine in most applications, unless you're running high boost levels where it doesn't. If you're throwing 20psi at a stock WRX bpv and it leaks, fine - replace it with an aftermarket billet. THEN SPEND SOME GODDAMN TIME TWEAKING THE SPRING ON IT TO OPEN PROPERLY SO YOU DON'T RIDE A BUCKING BRONCO WHEN YOU FEATHER THE THROTTLE.
If you're a newbie that uses a VTA, 50/50 or puts one on a stock or lightly modded car before you install an IC upgrade, exhaust, boost control or even a damn aftermarket air freshener, just kill yourself. Also, all SRT-4 drivers can feel free to off themselves as soon as is convenient. I know Dodge installed the BPV and it goes WHOOSH every time - EVERY GODDAMN TIME - you touch the throttle, even when you're parallel parking downtown. I heard six vents before the car was parked. IS THAT REALLY NECESSARY. I MEAN REALLY.
