Path of the trunk release cable
« on: January 01, 2012, 01:38:56 PM »
So my trunk release lever stopped working a month ago and i was just checking it out.  It doesn't seem to have broken,  there is still resistance.

So i noticed the cable in the trunk is on the passenger side... Does anyone know where the cable goes to get to the passenger?  I want to know if it goes near the passenger seat, and if I pinched it when i reinstalled the passenger seat...

2002 sedan.

There resistance and I can hear it clicking or some shit when i pull it,  but nothing... I dont know if its too stretched out or what.. I think ill have to get a spotter to help..

I ask about the seat because i had the same shit in my mr2... When i reinstalled the driver's seat belt,  I bolted the cable between a bracket and the body, so it would't open... I can be such a noob someday.

Mine stuck before. All I did was spray wd in the latch. And used my fingers to open and close the latch. Then I sprayed white grease in there. I also sprayed wd under the pull up next to the drivers seat and pulled it abounch of times. It's worked ever since. Maybe try that before you ripped the interior apart looking for a pinched cable

Mine just randomly stuck once too.  It freed itself, sort of...  I had been poking fun at a friend because his Audi 90's trunk release wouldn't work, and the key wouldn't open the trunk either.  So I said, "Hey, you know what?  Look at this!" and I tossed my keys into the trunk (because the car was unlocked), shut the trunk and proceeded to pull on the trunk release handle... to no effect.  :crazy2:  I never figured out why it stuck right then, I ended up pulling the back seat off so I could get my keys.  I did remove the spring on the handle (since it was ineffective anyway) and I've never had an issue since...

My car is more humble than I am.

Small price to pay for what was, to both of us, an absolutely hilarious moment.

Also, sorry, I can't resist.  Do you mean "carma"?  :-D

OT, see if pulling directly on the cable in the handle in the cabin does anything.  I think that's what was wrong with mine, the spring was rusted partly and preventing the cable from pulling fully.
