Pulling A STi Engine & Trans
« on: January 09, 2012, 09:43:24 AM »
So, My tranny blew all the teeth off of 2nd gear, well I should say I blew them off.  Now its time for a replacement, I thought about selling the car to upgrade to a 08-09 WRX Hatch but insurance would be killer and having a car paid off rules. Also I would end up prolly eventually breaking the 09 Gearbox. A friend I went to school with has a totaled STi, in which i'm buying his 6spd off him. I dont want to rebuild my gearbox and FastFreddy offered me a used gearbox, but I feel like it could happen again. Not to mention I've always wanted a 6spd, so now I can drive my car alittle more aggressively. Now here are my questions.

1. Can I pull the motor and trans at the same time without splitting them. (there is no radiator support or radiator so the front end is pretty open)

2. Where do I attach my Engine Hoist to. (I've seen people pully the A/C Comp and PS pump hook from there. Also right around the Intake Manifold)

3. Can I pull the axels without undoing the 32mm Hub bolt ( I did this with mine on the lift, but I had much more space then this, the car is a foot off the ground.)

4. Im alittle confused as to what I have to do to convert my R160's R&P to a 3.90 and also where to get the parts (I need this bitch back together quick)

(Updated) Just picked up Freddy's 02 tranny for now, to get me rolling

you would be surprised how much stronger the 08+ wrx trans are. some guys are putting more than 400ftlbs through them and they are still holding strong.

dude they are bell housing bolts and a pin, just split them, id imagine you'd run into problems with your lower frame anyways

attach your hoist to the intake mani, shouldnt have to take anything off
