Ordering a new car in a few days....
« on: January 18, 2012, 12:53:07 PM »
Hey guys, im looking at buying a new car. I had three cars in mind: 2013 Mustang gt, 2012 Camaro SS, and the 12 sti.

I strongly dislike the camaro because of it being so big and clunky, and the fact of almost no visibility.

The mustang was an absolute blast to drive, but is a little boring on the inside.

And the sti, is well an sti. Ive got a soft spot for subaru's, and they are great driving cars as far as im concerned.

It will NEVER see daily driving.  Both the mustang and sti's have a huge amount of aftermarket parts available. I cant make a decision and was looking for some guidance.  Thanks!!

thats what everyones saying.  The boss 302 is 40k

a base model gt is 27.5k

i dont see a 13 thousand dollar difference, when i can put the 302's suspension and intake setup in for less than 4k. And have an m3 eater....

Most of the money is in the engine forged internals, heads/cams are different and lots of things are beefed up to handle the 7500rpm redline. Standard brembos too

i figured eventually i would put a set of nasty cams, it would be awesome with the 5 liter.

And i sourced a 8 piston front and 6 piston rear brake conversion kit from SSBC for under 3 grand.

Basically it comes down to how much i want to finance. I can afford them both, but i would rather finance 20k instead of 30k. It would be alot of extra cost, and i would eventually change the stuff anyways...

Redline Performance has turned out some pretty badass Camaros. I got to move a couple. But you're right, the visibility is 0.

Yeah, I would read this before you start pre-planning modding a non-Boss 302-
http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2211543

Personally I think the Boss is worth it.

Oh, and 5.0 either way. The other cars are both inferior.

I agree with everyone above... Get a Boss 302... here's why its better than the 5.0.

Pull the trigger get the Boss be a Boss lol. Its well engineered and can take abuse. I want a new mustang honestly,  and if i were to do it the Boss would be my choice with the torsen diff option checked. I kick myself in the ass when i think about why I bought my wrx instead of an sti because i was going to mod it anyways. I love my Wrx but still to this day think I should have stepped up from the beginning. Just my opinion good luck choosing it'll still be badass which ever mustang you choose.

i came here to make my decision easier... haha that didn't work. I would have to crunch some numbers to see how bad it'll hurt.

That torsen diff is a 2k option (included with the recaro seats)

Why not a used C6 Z06?   :-o  I hate buying new cars.

Someone should buy byron's car for less money and run circles around the mustang.

yeah sorry couldnt help make it any easier. I think the cost is a bit inflated for the diff but if i were to purchase a Boss I'd have to bring it to track days so it would be a must have for me.

Didn't you sell the WRX because you needed more room for your dog?  Is this a daily or weekend / nice weather car?  The STI seems a little out of place in this lineup.

Yes, ive got a company car now. so this is a fair weather/weekend car.

Sti is in there merely because it was performance cars in my price range... it defiantly sticks out like a sore thumb.

A zo6 is  bit much for me, if i did a vette it'd be a 92-96.

that tsb is making me a little weary, but im more than likely going to pull the trigger on a black '13 coupe

Hmm, that TSB does not sound ideal...
And for the record, I dusted a 2011 GT a couple weeks ago on one of those warmer days, thrice times. Dude would not back off so I let him have it, just sayin' . . . . . .  Five point slow~!
Buy Byrons car and save yourself nearly 10K and munch some 302's. Makes 200 more at the wheels than mine!
When you say a z06 is a bit much do you mean price or power wise?
There are a few out there with decent price tags.

I do not have a huge concern about the power and how many subaru's i can beat  :-). I put in the order this morning on a gt coupe. Im not tied down to it but it is coming.  And the zo6....i don't know, i'm 19. The price and power doesnt scare me off, but my 50 year old retired neighbor has one. I would no doubt love to own one and think it would be amazing, but i don't need to own an american super car before i'm 20.

The TSB doesn't really concern me, my family has an extremely good relationship with the dealer i ordered from. And he showed no sign of concern when i mentioned the parts i wanted to put on the car.
