Since it's release, the iPhone has been, and will continue to be a device that is merely playing catch-up with already proven devices.  Nothing about each iteration released is new, no matter what cool name you give the feature.  Like everything Apple sells, it's success is based purely on marketing, hype, and trends.  Not innovative features and strong hardware.

Yeah, it's a terrible piece of crap nobody should buy them. :-D

It's not like that..  Simply saying, they're always behind the curve with both software features and hardware specs.

Well the bleeding edge isn't that important to the large majority of people.

A phone that can do some silly and some useful apps, sync my whole Google everything, check all my various emails, take OK pictures, do video conferencing, etc. is fine for me. It does everything I need with little effort or input on my part. Explain to me what the latest other hardware is going to do for me that the iPhone doesn't.

That's because Apple has always been a company that takes ideas that work together well from separate companies, and glues them together in an idiot-proof box.  I wouldn't say the marketing is based on hype so much as it's based on existing ideas.

For my part, I've gotten very tired of troubleshooting all of my electronics.  Even my Apple laptop has required substantial work (though that's mostly my fault for dropping it all the time), my phones have been alternating between basic flip-phones that don't have all the features I want or are dumb smartphones that don't work, but my iPod has always worked for me.  The home button fails every now and then, but when it does, it's final, I take it to the Apple Store in XGates, and I get a new one for free, I don't have to troubleshoot it and fix some new and annoying software issue.  I like to have ONE device that JUST WORKS, even if it doesn't have 802.11 draft-n, or the best camera in the world, etc.  For that reason alone, I'd go for an iPhone.

Droids only exists on VZW.

On any other carrier, they are just called Androids.

Oh btw, Galaxy Nexus on VZW is $99 for new customers at Amazon. Just in case you wanted to get a taste of what Android AOSP ICS is like ;)

I had the same phone for a bit.  It's pretty good.  Was released almost 4 years ago, and had a front facing camera, even back THEN.  PM me if you want to know how to use your $45 plan and ST SIM card in any unlocked GSM or ATT branded Android phone :0)  That's what I doooo.

I would like to do this when I have some extra cash to blow,  Just seems like unlocked phones are pretty expensive.  I've been looking on Amazon.  I guess I should check out craigslist.

Also, looks like it's not going to be a big deal anymore.  Straight Talk is introducing a sim card you can buy and stick in your phone (at&t or t-mobile only) to use their $45 a month unlimited plan.

Ebay is great for unlocked phones.  Just need to know what frequencies are required.

That's crazy about the SIM.  Is there something about that on Howard Forums ?

kinda to jump in, since im looking to upgrade my wife from a envy3, is the bionic a good phone.  to upgrade on a family plan is 50.  I would love to get her the maxx, but I cant spend that money now. i love how a new costumer, its .01
also, if we both get discounts for our jobs, do you think it would end up being cheaper getting two separate plans, or staying family, which means discount is only on the plan, from (60 to 50) and then on my data plan, wouldn't be on hers.  I was debating running into a store to see if they could price it out
looking for opinions.  sorry for hijacking but better than another thread on the same thing

Bionic is considered old already. I'll recommend the Galaxy Nexus always.

Go into a store and have them price your corp discount. One annoying thing is corp. discounts will not apply to unlimited minute plans.

I believe if you were on a family plan and you break it out, it's considered a new plan. Maybe someone can confirm, I haven't been a VZW customer for a while now but I think that's how they did it.

yeah, but she doesnt need the lastest and greatest and we cant afford to spend 229 on a phone right now...though I have been eyeing the nexus.  I figure that the bionic would be a nice upgrade for her from the envy3.  I wish that upgrading costumers got the same price as new ones.
