My ongoing, never-ending project called homeownship
« on: January 25, 2012, 10:09:14 PM »
Thought I had a thread made before, but I can't find it anywhere so I guess not. Anyways, I'll be keeping my updates in here as I continue this never-ending project.

Finally got around to putting a new heating system in the garage. I was given an almost new 80,000BTU high efficiency forced air furnace when I first got the house. I started it over the weekend with the help of my dad and we ran the gas line, plumbed up the vent, and got all the major stuff finished. Then over the course of this week I had the gas valve rebuilt / converted to LP and connected up a "back-up" 20# bottle that will act as a quick back-up if I ever run out on the main tank. Its actually running off the back-up for now until I can get the full size tank put in and filled up. Had it running while working on getting the garage re-organized tonight and it warms it up nice and quick... can't wait to get it all finished up. Still need to run the ducting down to the floor and through the divider wall into the main part of the garage.
Now onto the pics:

And my temporary air deflection until I can get the ducting work done. The board deflects it towards the doorway and I have a box fan in the doorway blowing the heat into the main part of the garage... not the best, but it works for now.

So will you really hate me when I say that there is a full breaker box just for the garage with a 160amp service? lol. I'll get some more pics of the garage when I get everything fully cleaned up and all my tools put away (just a HUGE pile on the bench right now)

Finally got the garage re-organized. Should be able to pick back up with the remote starters starting next week... depending on which days I end up going out of town for work...

I am also jealous of your garage, mine is small and tight :(

We should do a general home improvements thread.

I just wish our garage had heat, but without insulation its kinda pointless.  That looks sweet though.

The garage is somewhat insulated. The entire ceiling is covered with the foam insulation board. The walls are currently open which lose some of the heat... but hopefully this summer I will be addressing that.

Pretty sure I won't be jealous of your dad's garage that he lets you use.  I do all of my work at a multimillion dollar facility that I also get paid to manage during the day.  I don't even change my oil without a lift.   8-)

Some day I'm going to expand this garage width, depth, and height wise and put a nice 2 post lift in... but that will be a while.

Didn't mean it in that way, and its not my dads garage, its ours, we both built it and filled it with tools and equipment, lol. Still like your garage better, alot more light and cleaner, haha.

I suspect there's a fair amount of good garages on this forum.  We're mostly car guys, so we tend to have more than the average.

We have a Plasma welder, a two-post lift, a full set of tools...  It's got a convertible Imperial, a Lotus, an electric-converted Ford Probe, my VW Squareback, another Imperial, and a developing custom 30's speedster.
