KKD Garage (klarowe aka Kenny)
« on: October 08, 2012, 02:34:08 AM »
Spent an afternoon with Kenny and Drew today getting some new tires on my car.

Apparently 205/75r15 General Grabber AT2's are a pain in the ass of tall, stiff sidewalls, that, left to their own devices, point inwards until they're only about 3" apart.  I didn't know this when I ordered them to go on a 15x7 wheel.  They're recommended for a rim size between 5.5" and 7", but 6" is probably the more reasonable width rim for these  :uglystupid2:

Through determination, sweat, (and probably more than a few curses aimed at me and my tire selection while I was out of earshot  :-D) they wrestled the tires on, balanced them beautifully and got me back on the road.

But, my annoying tire selection aside, these guys were both great to deal with, prices were good, my rims didn't come out scratched to hell or covered in tar like they tend to at some other places.  So, I'm happy I went with them.......even if they never want to see this car again  :2funny: :crazy2:

lol. It was an interesting one, but it also taught us a few more things about the setup that we'll definitely use in the future (ie turning up the pressure an extra 5psi on the regulator). Either way I'm glad you came to us and it was a fun afternoon. Thanks for your patience and the review!

Got a JVC radio put in today by Kenny.  Despite the fact the wiring behind my center console makes a rat's nest look like a good design choice, he had it installed with no fuss in about a half hour.  Great guy, very friendly.

I'll bring my 944 wheels to you come summer, so I can get the Avon Tech R's put on, for sure!

With all these good reviews I guess I'm going to have to talk to you about a remote start for my wifes car. Hmm...

Awesome work. My car has never driven so smooth. Apparently when I thought the roads were rough it was just my wheels/tires being way out of balance.

Tires Balanced, rotated, and lessened my camber a bit... for $40, I know where I'm going when I can't or dont want to do something myself.

Kenny (well, his business partner, since Kenny was out of town) took care of a couple of tires on my wife's car. Really happy with the service and flexibility, and will definitely be back anytime I need a new set of tires or anything electronics related. Highly recommended.

The tires I got from Kenny took us almost 500 miles north over some pretty brutal roads and stayed quiet and smooth. Perfectly balanced. No issues.

Just a minor point to nitpick:  On your website (http://www.kkdgarage.com/) it's not once mentioned where your shop is located.  Might be a good piece of information to include.

I have to be careful what I advertise because I still run my shop out of my home garage.... which is zoned residential. So in order to not piss off the town, I try to keep most of my business through direct contact (usually email). I will try to put something in there for location though. Thanks!

Ohhhh, I was unaware of that.  Good choice on not putting it on the site then!   :-D

I'm still 100% legal doing it this way, but it's very thin ice. According to the town of Colonie, as long as I do not post advertising, and I do not create increased traffic, I am allowed to run a business out of my home. Since what I do is also not considered 'Repair work' (Wheels / tires are not considered repair work), I do not need a Repair Shop certification which allows me to continue without re-zoning. But again, it's a very fine line so I have to be careful what I do... lol.

So as long as you act as a mail order shop then you're good. Looked like a mail order shop to me. Just happened to help out some  buddies with tire mounting occasionally.

Exactly... lol. Since I only do a couple cars a week, I'm not yet increasing traffic so I'm flying under the radar. But if I put ANY signage or advertisement out front, I  have to try to get the zoning changed. Stupid laws... lol
