Six speed front diff repair/replace
« on: October 28, 2013, 11:14:40 PM »
So the binding in the front that I thought had gone away has been steadily getting worse. At slow speeds at full lock forward and reverse, I get really bad binding. It doesn't do it at high speed cornering. It did get really bad at the one autox I went to this year a it felt like my clutch was slipping as no power was going to the ground.

I replaced the drivers side axle and the problem continued, so I've rulled that out.

My question to you good people is who in the area can crack open a 6speed and replace a front diff (I emailed Adam Hennesey already, but I haven't heard back)? Also, where the hell can I get an AP suretrac front diff ?(it came in the 04 sti only in the US, mine is a 2003 version 8 JDM so it's the same one) Or, is there a better option front diff that I can get easier?

The car only gets driven on the weekends to get the fluids going etc etc. When I drive it, I am careful to try and not go full lock at low speeds.

Also, if anybody is a subaru six speed guru and wants to experience the binding first hand, I would be more than willing to drive to you so you can feel it, and then you can determine if you also think its the front diff.

I'm gonna try disconnecting the DCCDpro tonight or sometime soon to see if that makes a difference.

I turned the dccd to manual on the lowest setting and that worked, but I think at higher lock settings in manual it still does it. If I have time this week I'll disconnect it completely to see how it reacts then.

It could be a sign that its the center diff, which I would prefer it to be if there is something wrong.
