Need help with a few minor issues
« on: May 30, 2014, 08:49:54 AM »
I'm trying to get the ST-high all buttoned up before it actually sells, but need some help as I'm pretty much lost.

1) There is a very slight misfire. It only threw a code twice and both were cylinder 3. I tried swapping the injectors the first time and it remained on cylinder 3. I bought a new coil and replaced the cylinder 3 coil but it didn't fix it. It seems to be worse when the engine is cold. Compression is solid (140-142 psi on all cylinders). I've done plugs twice. The first time I didn't gap them properly (was in a rush and completely forgot). This last time I replaced the plugs with platinum +. The A/F fluctuates with the misfire but it's hard to tell if it is going rich then lean or lean then rich (bounces back and forth). I do however seem to get a quick puff of black smoke when it happens... which leads me to believe that it is rich (loss of spark). It doesn't seem to happen at all with heavy throttle, or in 5th / 6th gear. The engine light has not yet come on since replacing the coil so I cannot tell for sure if it is still showing cylinder 3 or not.

2)  May be related to the above issue, but once the car is completely warmed up, it doesn't want to recover from a quick rpm drop. It will either almost stall out (dash lights come on as if it shut off then refired) or it will completely stall out. If I ease down the rpm, then it will idle low, but smooth. It only happens when I push in the clutch from a mid-high rpm. Also, if I shut the car off once it's warmed up and restart within a few minutes, it will barely idle and sometimes stall out right away.

3) I had a car cut me off the other day in the rain and had to slam on the brakes. Ever since then my ABS light is now on and the DCCD will occasionally flash the lowest green marker.

I recently put a DW fuel pump in and replaced the in tank fuel filter for the WRX underhood fuel filter to try to remedy the first 2 issues. The 3rd just started a couple days ago. I know it is nothing major, but I would rather try to get everything fixed and working 100% before I sell it. I am going to be replacing all of the underhood grounds in the near future to try to eliminate a bad ground as the issue. Any other ideas? When it is not misfiring, my A/F is spot on so I don't think it is anything to do with the tune (plug Ray tuned it so it's very unlikely it has anything to do with the tune).

1 & 2 are both fixed. Ended up being the upstream o2 sensor (DOH!). I did the light flash diagnostic on the ABS sensor and found it's the left front. Tested the sensor for resistance and it's completely open so the sensor seems to be bad. Anyone have a sensor they want to sell cheap??

Damn... I found one on ebay for $20 and thought it was a hell of a deal so jumped on it. I should have waited I guess.. If something happens and this one doesn't work I'll hit you up. Thanks.
