Ascutney, VT. Hill Climb
« on: August 22, 2014, 01:13:31 PM »
"Fun runs" through the hills and parking lot racing is cool, but a sanctioned time trial through 4 miles of twisting & turning wooded road, is even better.  I'm going to try and make it, though I'll be in Lake George for the Hot Rod Nationals that weekend.

Are they using NEHA rules for classes/saftey equipment?  They say that competitors in the street class don't need a cage.  It seems like a cool event for a decent price, $175.

This was the Ascutney Hillclimb the weekend before the actual NEHA Ascutney II Climb, mostly bikes, put on by MAX BMW. They do this every year and yes there rules and regs are quite a bit lax compared to NEHA events. They run rally style, sending everyone off the line in 1 minute intervals, not the safest idea in the world.
For whatever reason, the bikes are only allowed to run with NEHA at Burke and Okemo, not Ascutney or Philo, so Max Stratton organizes his own event once a year here and they allow a few cars to participate like we allow a few bikes to participate! I hear this one went way better than last year ... !

I'll probably give this a shot if they do it next year, as it's a damn shake cheaper than a track day, and either of my cars will be ready.
