GRiD 2
« on: January 05, 2015, 02:17:27 PM »
I picked this up on the holiday sale, the reloaded version comes with all the DLC for $25 (during the sale).  It's surprisingly good!  The old GRiD game was well setup, but this one, despite being a little heavy-handed on the story side, has way better physics feel to it.  And it's Mac compatible, and plays really well on my laptop.  I've really been enjoying it, with the DLCs the car choices are spectacular (BAC Mono, legit Formula D cars, IZOD Indycars).  Also, this is one of the first racing sims that gives a good range of finishes if the AI difficulty is set right.  Most sims I was either always at the back, or always in 1st, and I've finished everywhere in these races.

The only two downsides I can point to are the lack of legitimate race tracks (many are "city" tracks created for the game) and the lack of cockpit view.  There is a hood view that works very well, so it's not that bad, but it does detract a little.

Apparently the online multiplayer is really good, I haven't tried it yet as I'm still learning the feel in single-player.  Controls well with an Xbox 360 controller too, right out of the box.  Surprised me on that, too.

I assume that version didn't have cockpit view either?

Why's that?  I like it because it's more realistic.

Holding onto a steering wheel and then having another infront of me impeding my vision isn't realistic to me :-P

I guess that's true.  I meant more the limited pillar sightlines...

Seems to me most racing games up the FOV since you can't look side to side as easily.
