Under Engine Cover
« on: February 19, 2015, 12:27:33 PM »
So after reading around the interwebs, it turns out that apparently Subaru's have a big piece of plastic that is supposed to be under the engine/tranny.

I say "apparently" because my 2010 Forester and 2011 Impreza didnt come with them...  Both were purchased used with maybe 40k on the clock, so Im guessing that the previous owners just ditched them instead of trying to work around them.

My question is:  Should I try to find replacements somewhere?  Or are they really enough of a PITA that its not worth putting them back on?

It's cheap protection against minor road debris......but it's also been said that they have an impact on gas mileage and airflow through the engine bay

Hmmm, I guess I should try to find one somewhere...and the fasteners.  I wonder if Fred has a pile of these at the dealership from disgruntled mechanics....

Yes mechanics usually toss them because its annoying to take on and off every time.

Are you sure that the noise is coming from the engine? I once had a baffle come loose in the silencer that only made a noise under certain conditions.
