Edinburg Kart-Track May 16th and 17th
« on: February 23, 2015, 11:40:30 AM »
- - CANCELLED - -

A bit early, maybe, but figured I'd post it anyway.

Where:  Edinburg Gocart track (More directions to follow)
When:  the weekend of May 16th and 17th
Who can go:  All makes/models/prep levels/Driver levels
Who's running it: Southern Tier Corvette Club with some help from AMEC

Here's the google map. I'll post the 'official' directions once I get them.  Strayed off of the offical path last year and had to drive over 8 miles of washboard dirt roads. https://www.google.com/maps/place/Plateau+Sky+Ranch+Airport/@43.2287723,-74.1132514,424m/data=!3m1!1e3!4m2!3m1!1s0x0:0xb15c5cb302a2569b

This is a really fun set of events, basically an autocross you don't have to work.  It takes place over 2 days (2 events per day) at a Kart track with dips, dives, and banked turns.  Corvettes are the primary audience so the classes for us are Open Stock, Open Prepared, and Open Modified.  The pavement is a mix of old and new, the surface is a bit bumpy, and staging occurs in the grass, so it's probably not a good idea to bring a slampig.  Turbo subarus can potentially top out 3rd gear on the straight going into the hairpin.  A single run is 2 laps of the course, and by the end of each day we had 6 or 8 runs total...I can't really remember.  There's a lunch break in the middle of each day, and you can wander into the nearest town or bring your own grub.  A few of us from MoHud went last year, including Andy in the Wabbit, and Jeremiah in his boosted s2000.

Jay, this would probably be a fun event in your buggy...one of the Amec guys brought his ice-racing buggy out last year and that was a blast to watch.

Always loved this event. Ill try to be there. I want to hit up some non scca events in an attempt to get some footage with the quad. Last one was too windy and this one is near an airport. We will see how that works out.
Whoever smelt it dealt it.

Entry fee was either $40 or $50 for each day, if I'm remembering right.  I'll post once the flyer is out.  No idea about class rules for the Corvettes, but for us it's been like this (SUBJECT TO CHANGE):

Open Stock:  Roughly Cars eligible for Stock aka Street SCCA rules.  Bone stock to moderate improvements (eg: catback, wheels/street tires, brake pads, drop springs, sway bars).

Open Prepared:  Roughly Cars eligible for the Street Touring classes (ST, STC, STX, STU, STS) and the street prepared classes.  Stuff  like Turbo-back exhaust, boost increases, modification/reinforcement of the body, crazier suspensions, etc.

Open Modified:  Roughly "Street Mod" and "Prepared" level cars.  Things with driveline swaps, gutted interiors, etc.  Example: my wagonzilla, Andy's atomic rabbit, EJ's Evo.  I imagine fast-out-of-the-box stuff like an Elise/Exige, GTR, or 911 Turbo would be defaulted to this class as well.

I might have Modified and Prepared switched.  Generally they don't look too closely, they run on the honor system and your SCCA class if you have one.

This Orange County guy is interested also. Will check back for updates.

There is an old cart track that is just up the hill from the Orange County Fair Grounds 1/2 mile Hard Clay oval. It has been vacated for many years but most of the track is still there.

Would be cool to possibly try something like that here. Gonna do some research...

I just got an email from the organizers.  They could not secure the track for May, so the event has been cancelled.
