Oil Questions
« on: March 23, 2015, 08:07:02 AM »
The time has come to change the oil in my transmission (its is a little difficult to downshift to 2nd gear when cold)
Has anyone tried the "Uncle Scotty's cocktail" or should I just buy some Subaru Extra S and use that?

Thanks in advance,

Extra-S, with maybe some RedLine Lightweight Shockproof added.

I was leaning towards Extra S being how it's a factory fill.
Part number I found online is SOA427V1700, but the bottle doesn't say "Extra S" on it, is this the right stuff?

Never tried the uncle scotty mix, but Extra-s is good stuff
Last i knew, Fred was selling it by the quart at Capitaland.... That was a while back, but might wanna check with him first if you're in the area

Back when i bought it, the only option was buying a 5 gallon bucket lol

It doesnt say Extra-S on the bottle, it only says 'High Performance Gear Oil 75W90' !! This can be bought in quarts, Subaru's LSD for the diff only comes in 5 gallon buckets now!
Amsoils Severe Gear is good to use in the rear diff, cant go wrong with Motul either!

I just put the "High Performance Gear Oil" in the tranny and difs last fall.  Made a big difference over whatever was in there before.  Wasnt THAT expensive for fluids, and seems to be working fine.  Still hard to downshift into 2nd when its really cold, but for my morning commute thats one stop sign.  After that the next stop is no issue.

I'll be out in Albany tomorrow, Goldstein has it in stock, so I plan to stop in there and pick some up.

also might have to test drive a 2015 WRX while I'm there
