JCNA Lime Rock track day (Only one video)
« on: May 30, 2015, 02:43:21 PM »
So I got back last night from a track day at Lime Rock Park.  The power is awesome!  Obviously there were faster cars (a few Ferrari Challenge cars ran in our group, you'll see them pass me on the back straight), but I was right up there with the fastest street cars.  The suspension wasn't the greatest, it's still a little front biased.  I should have had a little more front tire pressure and a lot more rear (also a 20mm sway in the back would have been an improvement over my 17), but it wasn't bad.  The V12 evo2s were astoundingly good, I never managed to get any actual understeer, and they're two steps away from DOT slicks.

Also bonkers was the way my laps were made.  Most of the cars could hold higher corner speeds than me, but there wasn't a car there that could get away on corner exits, amazing the exit speed the car could achieve.  And most of the time down the straight I could just slightly outpace them (take note when I wave the RX7 by, and I managed to catch him after he passed).  If there were a good driver in the car, it would probably be much more competitive.  It paced my dad in the XJR, though he could easily outbrake me...

Because what let me down were my brakes.  Even with upgraded pads I got way too much brake fade.  Dragging it down from 110 into Big Bend required braking really early.  My current plan is WRX front rotors and LGT rears.  Just have to figure out master cylinder.  Also some brake ducting would be good.

Also, the stock radiator isn't QUITE up to the task of a 90* track day.  The temperature did start to rise, I'd have to back off for a lap.  I took the front plate off and turned on the interior heater (not like I noticed) and that helped, but it's time for an aluminum radiator.

I wish I had gotten more video, but there was a distinct lack of organization (on the group's part, not ours) and finding time to get the camera set up was a challenge.  And for some stupid reason they cut our last session by more than half.  8 minutes on track, they had been giving 20.

Sounds pretty awesome! Love the video. Was gonna ask what that whining noise was, then read the description haha. I love Limerock, I used to go and watch the American Le Mans series there. Was there any track/driver training, or just get in and go?

There was...  An offer from a few instructors.  It was really loosely organized.  I did go out with an instructor for a little bit, but he said I should go out on my own.
