Stock EBCS or wiring or tuning help please
« on: June 01, 2015, 08:20:50 PM »
Ok. It's time for me to get off my ass and fix my car. It's basically been in brick mode for about a year...maybe 2. First off, the car idles fine with no knocking. But the symptom is low boost, like mechanical pressure only or close to it and when I try to got WOT it stutters badly. I throw a P0328- Knock sensor 1 circuit high input and P0245 - Turbo wastegate solenoid "A" low. I replaced the knock sensor and I've swapped in another stock EBCS with the same results. I also put a meter across the EBCS connector and got 14.1v. I've also replaced the battery which was completely dead from not driving it so I know the ECU has been reset also.

Is this a tuning issue? Is it maybe the actual ECU? I really have no idea at this point and any help would be appreciated.

The car is a 2007 wrx with a stage 2 tune on it.

I have no real useful info to give sir.  But figured I'd say something to help drum up some interest perhaps...

Yup, busy day.

I'm at a loss too but you could try reflashing the ecu? How did this problem start?

Can you log the stuttering to see any trend there?  Maybe a clue's in there somewhere, AFR, boost, timing...

I know you don't have a stock tune, but I also know the stock tune lets the car get into low boost inside closed loop.  I've no clue if your tune allows that anymore, but if an O2 sensor had gone bad from sitting that could be affecting it right until it swaps to OL.  Another thing you could log.

Not exactly sure, but one turn at autox a few years ago made the car hesitate, and then it was fine for awhile. Then I had an issue with my center diff, so I wasn't really driving it too much, and then all of a sudden I got a CEL for the knock sensor. Replaced that last year. Seemed to run fine for awhile, then I put the car into a hard right hand off ramp, and the knock sensor came back. Then it was back and forth between boosting well and not. And now I'm getting the other CEL for the wastegate solenoid.

Do you have the ability and time to come to my house and help me log?

Could it possibly be a grounding issue? Maybe a vacuum issue? Also who can help me compression test? I might as well check that out and hope for the best.

I wish I could, but I won't be here this weekend and I'm moving on Wednesday.  I'm out of time, and I still need to do brakes on my car.  :|

I was going to say, based on your description of hard turns causing the issue, you may have some wiring that's been rubbed through.  Vacuum leak you could check with a ghetto pressure or smoke test.  It could also be...  Les likely, but maybe the fuel pickup in the tank is getting clogged when you really swing the car around?  Seems like it would show up other times, but you never know.

Took it to Albany Speed Shop. The ended up finding out that the shielded cable for the knock sensor in the wiring harness was rubbed through in 2 spots. Probably because race car. There's no way I would've found that shit. Anyways....my car is back and in good shape!!

I'm also gonna try and make an autocross or 2 because I need to re learn how to drive my car. haha.
