2010 Subaru outback stalls going to reverse
« on: April 20, 2015, 09:52:55 PM »
OK, so my wife just got a outback and it already has an issue. From park if she goes to reverse, the rpm drop and it stalls. We got it from Lacy's and already had it in once for "software update" for the tranny.  they are starting to give us the run around saying they are waiting to hear from Subaru on what to do. Any one have this issue with their suby.  I've read there may be a sensor that tells the car what gear your in and maybe that's bad.  If they don't do something I'm going to claim lemon law, though I know that is 3 tries to fix it.

Haven't had the issue myself, but it could be a switch, physical wiring, or something wrong in the TCU.  Can she put it in any of the 'lower' gears like 1, 2, etc?  If she goes down and then up to reverse, does it work?

It's a 2010, so all it's got is a "D" or "M" setting below neutral, but I was going to ask nearly the same question.  Is it OK if shifted directly into D?

Well, it could be a 5EAT.  He hasn't specified if it is a 2.5 or a 3.6.  But unless his wife is really cool  awesome goddess-like, I'd suspect the 2.5.   :-D

All the cool  awesome god-like (or goddess) folks drive the 3.6R.

Update.  Car still at shop. Lacy says they can't make it happen and gave my wife some line... Oh the car needs to relearn everything and relearn the battery?. OK, yes ecu would have to learn the new tranny software but that would have already been done . staying to get pissed.  I'm going to have to step in now.    side note.  she's been driving 15 legacy and have to say it's nice, though small for car seats

Just bringing this back from the dead with an update. we had the car up to about a week ago, with the stalling once or switch a month.  Started doing it while coming to a stop, dangerous and we have two kids.
So, we had the torque converter replaced since there was a tsb for '10-12, and other things done.  It came down to the manager saying it could be cell interference, which I called bs. Problem could not be found, nor replicated while they had the car soo lacy subaru ended up taking it back and "trading" us to another 2010 they had on the lot but it was a step up, premium with leather and stuff.  I think its now an electrical issue with the car.  I worry that since I didnt have to go through alemon law, that they are just going to sell it to someone else even though the sales guy said its not safe and they wont...sure.  well, I had them switch over the trailer hitch and get a few new parts for the wifes new car.  I had to "borrow" the jack from her old car since mine actually broke on me

New one seems to ride a little better.

Nice to hear that it was resolved, but it sucks that it took so long.  Is the new one the same color?

nah, but i like it a little more its the dark grey whereas the old one was a light blue.   One good thing, I got to drive a 2015 legacy and forester, a 2014 ford flex (which i did like), and a crappy 2008 focus, all the loaners were out.   I just couldnt believe everyone was out of ideas, them and subaru.  I hope they drive it enough to fix it, granted they had it just as much as us
