need help securing my subs from floating around the trunk
« on: April 21, 2005, 06:40:08 PM »
I've been meaning to 'clean up' my trunk for months, but it just isnt going to happen for quite a while with everything going on.  I have a shitty xplod amp and two mediocre polk audio subs in a crappy prefabbed box in my car right now.  I hate it.  I bought a single 12" jl 12w3, but I need a new amp for it too.. and I just dont have the money.  So my main concern right now is stopping the subs I do have from sliding all over the trunk.  Velcro just isnt working and I dont know what else to do.  Its pretty ghetto rigged back there... and it doesnt sound horrible right now (to me) I just dont want the subs moving around back there anymore.  its a lot worse now too with the extra power.  So, does anyone have any suggestions or can help me with this.   :?:

you should come by and check out my setup.  My sub box is held in place VERY firmly, but it has a quick removal feature for racing and stuff.  I have a few ideas, but I don't want someone online to tell me they are stupid or won't work. So if you wanna see/hear them, we'll have to meet up somewhere.

So... if I read that right, you work on weekends, but from 3-11.  If that's so, then we can meet Sunday before 3....
alright... uh...

I guess we'll figure it out.

Sean (styles) had some sort of solution for this I think as well. Might try him.
Eric

Quote me now while I'm feeling good about it.  I've decided a WRX will be the vehicle that replaces the Jeep.  I can't see paying Evo prices or justifying purchasing a halfassed/beat to death example for the same asinine amount of money.  For an affordable, point to point, all-weather capable performance car, a wagon fits the bill.  A swapped wagon, even better.

Figure it out and let me know, just keep in mind that I have to be at work at 3.  so i'd have to leave where ever at like 2 if we are in clifton park.  other than that i'm down for whatever.

I'ld like to hear about what you did. My subs love to move around also.  I have been thinking of some type of quick release brace.

I have the same problem with my subs moving...i took them out and now im looking for someone to help me build a custom box and hopefully a solution to stop the movement....well u COULD buy one of those cargo bars that pull out to the required width and that may keep your subs in place till you find a better solution  8)

They dont move around anymore, but my trunk is pretty ugly now :( I need to get some carpet and I also need to make a rack to put my amp and sirius tuner on.... then it should look ok I hope

edit: I shouldnt say "they don't move around" because in the process I took the two 10's out and replaced it with one JL 12" that I bought from stylesrex.  thing fuckin thumps   I cant believe how much louder it is, haha my headlights are dimming a little now.. I have it turned waaayyyy down also... not used to all that bass.  haha and I was worried that one 10" wouldnt be enough.  oh well.

RED, "I took the two 10's out and replaced it with one JL 12" that I bought from stylesrex. thing fuckin thumps"

I was always impressed by how many notes the JL actually plays.  My subs now only really punch on a few beats and kinda gets annoying and repetitive. Glad you are liking the sub.  Now go drop hits like fumbles!!!!!!
