Anyone doing VR yet?
« on: February 01, 2017, 09:21:33 AM »
I have been playing a lot of games on the oculus rift and I'm totally addicted. I also have PS VR and although not as good, still another awesome experience. Anyone playing with the oculus, vive, psvr, or even the gear?
Whoever smelt it dealt it.

Heading to my buddy's house to play some Resident Evil on PSVR tonight actually. I'm not ready to dive all the way in yet; however, I don't typically go all in for new technology until I see it stabilize a bit in the market. Is it THAT good? I just built a new Gaming Rig that is VR ready, so when the time comes.

I have a couple friends that are super into it. Both currently have the Vive, one sold his Oculus to get it.

I personally had the opportunity to try the Vive (and modern VR in general) for the first time last weekend. I was blown away by both how good the system was and how intuitive it was. I expected disorientation or something along those lines and had absolutely no issues. I checked out Valve's "The Lab" and the Warhammer Fantasy - Vermintide. Both were a lot of fun.

My only issue (and why I haven't bought one yet myself) is I haven't seen any experiences (though my personal time with it is limited) that are not wave shooters. I should have checked out one of the racing simulators, but didn't have time.

I'm not really into it yet.  I don't really play any new games, and the only thing in my library with VR support is Project Cars.  It probably doesn't help that I have almost no free time  :2funny:

Project cars is an great game in VR. With a steering wheel setup, you can forget you're in a game.

Lots of great "non-shooter" options. My favorite games are the building and the physics based puzzle stuff. There are experiences in here that blow my mind. Check out a preview for "grav lab VR" or "fantastic contraption VR." Both amazing games. As for the oculus vs vibe debate, they are pretty much even now. Since oculus recently came out with their controllers they have slightly squeaked by the vive as far as consumers are saying. I wouldn't bet juuuust yet but facebook has some amazing things coming for the oculus that will make it more consumer friendly. At that point they may blow everyone else away.

A Portal-Franchise game would probably be awesome in VR.

Valve is hyper involved with the Vive. There's a great Valve compilation of different experiences: "The Lab". There's a robot repair one, Gladys pops up and judges the shit out of you.
