No additional pains today so that is a bonus. I picked up the police report this morning and the other driver was given a failure to yield ticket. I also provided my insurance with the dashcam video of the accident. Once everything is resolved I will post the video.

Now onto car shopping. Test drove a '14 Sti last night, it was molested so I wont be buying that. The cars on the short list are unmolested '14 WRX/STI, '15 Golf R, Jeep Wrangler Unlimited of some sort.

Excellent news that they ticketed him! I've been screwed before when a cop refused to assign blame by not ticketing anyone involved

Good luck on your hunt

I'm glad you're not finding new broken body parts, dude.  One of those accidents happened right in front of me in Latham, a Mazda3 doing 30-35 t-boned a busted ass looking ford ranger.

Good luck with the hunt, if the Saabaru gets totaled out.   AWD/Stick/Affordable/Fun is getting tough to find these days.  I was pondering an upgrade from my Mazda for a few months, but I'd rather just not have a car payment and concentrate on The Wagon for fun.

Yes it is. I swung by the VW dealer to drive a Golf R, the salesman had me test drive an Alltrack. Then the sales manager came in and I was talking to him. Told him I had a 92x he instantly knew it as the Saabaru, he was a subie guy, had 3 of them and just traded in his WRX. He asked why I didn't test drive the Golf R, I said the salesman said "we might have one on the lot" then tried to sell me the Alltrack. He was surprised and tried to get me to test drive the Golf but I was out of time and told him that I might come back next week.

So the Golf R was fun to drive. Snappy responsive and put a smile on my face when I went WOOT on Central. The truck space is minimal, and the rear leg room is less than the Saab. Will have to check out a 14 Wagon.

Nope Nemer on Rte 7. I finally answered when he called yesterday. He wanted to know how I liked the Alltrack, I told him I didn't, it was too much of a wagon, I want a 5 door hatch, I want a used Golf R. He said he hasn't seen too many of those for sale used, but he would check some other lots. A few minutes later he sends me an email for a 2014 Mercedes-Benz C-Class 4dr Sdn C300 Sport 4MATIC. Close bu no cigar.

My wife went through this nonsense at the Latham Lexus dealership (trying to put you in a car that you don't want or a deal you don't want)

Meliss: This is what I want: a used 2015-16 IS300 or 350 f sport with low mileage
Lexus: We don't have any used cars because they sell out and we don't typically get them in, but here's a bunch of 17's you can lease.
Meliss: No, we don't want to lease.
Lexus: Ok let me talk to my manager and see what we can do. (few minutes later). Ok we re worked the numbers on that lease and we can get you to this amount with this percentage.
Meliss: We don't want to lease and we're out of time for the day.

So a few days later she gets a message from them saying they have "great news". She calls, and it turns out they reworked the lease numbers again and could get us an even better deal on a 17. They must really think their customers are dumb assholes or something. Either that or this sales person was thick.

Needless to say she searched the internet and found a bunch of cars on the carmax website. They shipped a car from Rhode Island to Albany for free just for her to look at with no obligation to even buy it. Well she loved it and by the end of the week she was in a 2015 IS350 F sport with about 12800 miles on it with this great looking like burnt red interior. At the end of the week she got another message from the dealership and they miraculously found a used car that was what she was looking for. She responded that she already bought the car she wanted from Carmax. I hope Carmax puts dealerships out of business or if nothing else makes dealerships realize they can't keep giving everyone a screw job with their shady tactics and random pricing and negotiating.

Jay, would you consider a '13 WRX Hatch?

That's awesome, hope she likes it.  The IS350s have reviewed really, really well even from purists like TheSmokingTire.

Carmax is going to keep at least the "prestige" dealers in business--on the Parts and Service side.  They're just too complicated and require dealer finagling.  Audi/VW/Porsche, BMW/Mini, Mercedes, Lexus(some), Cadillac, etc are all serviced by the closest dealer of their respective brands.  CarMax saves some money by not having tons of Factory certified techs(and staffing their lots with amicable clerks instead of "sales people"), local dealer Mechs get cars to work on.

There's a 2012 at the Albany CarMax, and a 2012 and 2015 on Albany CL.

I'm really glad she went with the IS350 and not the IS300 or IS250 depending on the year she was looking. They're both horribly overweight (like 3800lb). I think the chassis is made from Mithril. But the saving grace with the 350 is the 306hp/277tq. The IS250 or IS300 is the same weight but missing either 100hp or 50 hp and the damn thing could barely get out of it's own way. That would make those 2 really bad value because the pricing is not a huge jump when we were looking at used for used. And I made that point abundantly clear, which I think resonated with her when she bought the IS350 and not the 250/300.

I found a 2016 GTI with 4K miles for $24K on Carmax. If I can't find anything that I really want, I may pick this up as it will have a higher trade in value in the next couple of years if I find something I really wanted.

Mithril would be light. I believe you may be thinking filthy human steel.

I fit in the Golf R. But couldn't fit much else in. The hatch was much smaller than the Saabaru. I am getting $4100 back from the insurance company. I found a Focus ST with 30K miles for $18,600. Using the insurance money as a down payment that puts me in a decent car, with 30K miles for ~ $250/month.

Tough to beat that deal.  I'd do a google search for the year of the ST and "known engine problems".  My nephew's was a '13 or '14 and ate one of the pistons.  I love me the Little Fiesta ST, it was on my short list when I thought about upgrading from the mazda.  Ford's come a long way with their products these days.

Yea, the IS is heavy-ish for it's size.  Did y'all get AWD?  My (real, not this detuned 350 malarky) IS300 was 3200-3300lbs with Ye Old Pig Iron 2jz-ge sitting in the engine bay.
