New to Albany...reputable mechanic?
« on: August 17, 2017, 12:42:12 PM »
Hey all,

I'm new to Albany (just relocated for graduate school) and new to the Subaru family (2004 Subaru Forester 2.5XS, ~102k miles)! I am looking for a reputable mechanic in the area. My exhaust or heat shield (the Y-joint or whatev) is rattling in the low RPMs. Seems to be getting worse over the last few weeks. I'm a n00b when it comes to car repair, however,  I would like to learn as time goes on. First, I would like this looked at by a professional.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Thanks!
Eric

A common Subaru problem.  I'm not sure what the pricing would be.  When I was a student, I just sort of crushed the heat Shields down on the pipes a bit.

If you're willing to drive a bit, Subie Solutions in Gansevoort is run by a member here. Fred's a good guy, a true Subie guru.

If you want something a little closer, Don's Garage in Cohoes has done some good work for me when I've been in a bind.

Same here.  I think they commonly rattly on all the N/A cars.  I got tired of trying to silence mine and ripped it off.

Also,  I'd second SubySolutions.

SubySolutions or a hose clamp. Haven't had a suby without one (hose clamp that is).

I haven't had a suby that wasn't worked on by Fred  :2funny:
