nope is right, i have a 2.2L and i have researched it alot
I'm pretty shure you could but the engine would blow in a matter of days weeks or months depending on how you drove it.

what year is your L beat22?   if it is pre 96 you may get lucky on emissions.  just a thought

its a 97.... so am i just better off with an ej20 swap?.... also i was told that the ej25 from the rs doesnt like boost and that the 22 would be better because of thicker walls.... any input?

if it were an older ej22t with a closed deck block, then yeah it would be nice.  unfortunately, you don't have one of these
AP Stage 2, V7 seats, EDM lights, Subaru 4/2 pots, 6spd swap, one piece Aluminum driveshaft, suretrack diffs, Prodrive Gold PFF7s, sways, strut bars, springs, etc.

no but its not like i cant buy one....only prob is i think the motor has to be newer than the car for obd2 emissions....

The  motor dosn't need to be newer as long as you use your electronics. my 2000RS has a 94 ej22t in it and runs obd2. you can do this because subaru motor only have one sensor on the motor and that's the crank sensor. and 99% of subaru's use the same crank sensor, if not like in my case it wasn't the same i just used my sensor on the motor and it is fine. Subaru's allow for alot of possiblites within the Ej family of motors. If you want more details on how it's done pm me.

OBD2 Rules:

The engine production year doesn't matter, as long as the car body is pre-96.  A relative of mine works for DMV.
For what it's worth, the price for a crate ej25t short block was $1000 bucks less than the ej22t crate short block.  At least it was the last time i checked primitive motorsports' website.

um.... ressurection... anyways it doesnt matter now....also exeter subaru is 200 cheaper for ej22t shorty than ej257
