6spd with sti short block swap
« on: July 27, 2006, 10:02:34 AM »
well i just got the sti tranny and short block today. i got the tranny, clutch flywheel, preasure plate, axels, drive shafts, hubs, sway bars, diffs, and a short block. im still in the process of pulling the motor out of his car but i should have it done in a couple of days depending on how lazy i get. but ive never done a swap like this. so if anyone is for giving a hand that would be cool. its going to be done in my garage so you dont have to worry about being in a drive way. ill get some beer and pizza if anyone is down for giving a hand or just chillin. i only want to do the 6sdp swap right now i think i might wait to put the short block in or should i do it all at onnce?

o yeah what do i need for dccd to work?. the kid is giving me everything but i dont know what to take.

a lot of ifs here, but if you bought the entire car, and if for some reason you want to trade trunks with that STI, my wrx wing is mint  :|

so its probably nothing you're interested in, but I figured I'd ask  :-P

you said shortblock....
what are your plans?
Don't be stupid and throw stock wrx heads on a 2.5L engine.  Just plain dumb. You have to enlarge the combustion chambers on the wrx heads. use this opportunity to unshroud the valves.
If y ou don't, your compression ratio will be mid 9s.  With factory sti pistons, that is a disaster waiting to happen.

well ive been doing the swap on my own after work and im stuck right now. i have the whole drivetrain in but the rear hubs. i cant use the sti hubs because my rotors wont fit on them and then i cant use the wrx hubs because the axel spline is to large to fit. if anyone has done this swap let me know what you had to do.

the short block i do not plan on puting in until the spring time. i plan on getting new pistons with a set of heads. i would like to go with a gt30r or 35r. i would have purchased the heads at the same time but i ran low on funds.

People normally replace all hubs and the whole rearend assembaly w/ STI parts... and use STI wheels... Havent read how to do it w/out w/out all that...

well i pulled back the out side cv boot and i cant figure out how seperate the cv joint from the axel. and just for the hell of it i tried to see if the wrx axel would fit in the inner cv joint on the sti rear diff but its just a little bit to small so there is some slack. if anyone knows how to seperate them let me know please :|

Ditto on that should be the same as all other CV joints....

Did you make sure that the parking brake wasnt adjusted all the way out? Do you have the sti rotors? do they fit? No need to take apart CVs if you really dont have to...

i dont have the sti rotors. even if i did they wont fit on my rim. im still on stock rims

i took  apart one of the sti hubs to just see if it would work but even with it guted of the parking brake assembly its still to large.

i believe your right about the sti rotors and your brakes....will not work...sorry... if you seperate the boot from the outer cup with a small hammer you should be able to pound the outer cup off.
