STI Wing
« on: January 31, 2007, 01:40:37 AM »
I've always wanted one and this seems VERY cheap....espeically for painted...you think its too good to be true?  Is that true what it says in the description about having the mod the bottom of the wing to fit?

Yes you'll have to do some measuring, drilling, and fitting to the bottom of wing and your trunk lid.  There are 5 holes drilled for mounting the standard wrx wing.  By the sounds of things you are wingless so youll have to drill alot more holes.  The STi wing has a flat bottom that sits across the trunk lid.  To properly secure it to the trunk you must 'swiss cheese' your trunk lid with ~12 holes so that the wing doesnt fall off during driving or trips to the car wash.  Be careful to seal up the holes very well, otherwise on those trips to the car wash (or driving in the rain) you'll have a "hot tub" trunk.

Ammo do you have a wing-less trunk?

Ill swap trunks with you if you want a wrx spoiler, which IMHO looks and fits much better than STi <rep> junk.  I dont car about color as i can paint too match both trunks.

Just ask DW about his STi spoiler or find a current pic of his car.  It now rocks a oem wrx wing.  The one you are looking at is almost exactly what he bought, then sold almost immediately afterwards.

I am not wingless...i have the OEM WRX wing....and hate it

I've always wanted the STI wing and i dident take DW's swap because im very picky...im afraid the paint wont match 100% because my car is pretty much new and also i HATE how the older models say "Subaru" on the trunk instead of just the sweet ass clean badge...iwanna take the WRX and Impreza badges off the trunk tho....

I dont exactly understand what your saying about Dw's wing and why he wanted to sell it right away....i know about all the drilling and such which is why I Planned to have some1 put it on...possibly fred

The wing doesnt seal-up the holes that you drill into the trunk and it leaks, it is junk

Instead of putting a nut on the end of the stud thats casted into the bottom of the OEM STi wing(smart), the replica wing you screw the bolts into the bottom of the wing.

Theoretically its shouldnt matter but theres a reason why subaru chose to do things they way they did, because they engineered it and it works.

It really doesn matter who installs it, the manufacture of the replica overlooked this very important detail for whatever reason (usually cost, but could be lack of experience, or many other things).

That being said you can buy the wing and 'make it work' but it might take some more time and a couple tubes of silicone or whatever ghetto solution you can think of to seal the holes.

Goodluck!

As for the water leak problem...that was fixed right after I discovered the problem, very simple...The wing was not centered perfectly (mayble 1/8" off) so that could have contributed to the problem.  As for the paint matching, I don't remember you even looking at it so maybe your not picky just kinda anal? Trust me when I say I keep my car very clean.  I decided that I really didn't like the look of the wing anymore so that is why I got rid of it.  Just go over to Nasioc and find somebody who will trade with you.  WRB 02C is WRB 02C no matter what the year is.

Yeah, the paint on my awfully abused 3 year old 80,000 mile STi was so faded it looked...

Oh thats right. Black. Right up next to the NEW black cars I'd park it next to. Paint fade in a year is so minimal you wouldn't be able to tell. Especially in our climate... Harsh sun is the worst paint fader, and god knows we don't have harsh sun.

You're being Anal.
Eric

Quote me now while I'm feeling good about it.  I've decided a WRX will be the vehicle that replaces the Jeep.  I can't see paying Evo prices or justifying purchasing a halfassed/beat to death example for the same asinine amount of money.  For an affordable, point to point, all-weather capable performance car, a wagon fits the bill.  A swapped wagon, even better.

www.paintscratch.com OEM colors just choose year/make/model and color code its 24.95 a rattle can and from every one I've seen used or tired it came out great!

1 can would prolly do quite well on an STI wing... The also have Clearcoats!

You can also buy bulk paint or just touchups too!...
