sti diff/rex tranny
« on: April 29, 2007, 11:11:14 AM »
Ok, easy one. Does a rear sti differential (4.44) fit with a rex tranny? This driveline is going into my L, so i'm curious if it will work. And does anyone know what else i'll need for the tranny swap or does it all fit nice and snug? Thanks.

I am fairly certain the answer is no.
Eric

Quote me now while I'm feeling good about it.  I've decided a WRX will be the vehicle that replaces the Jeep.  I can't see paying Evo prices or justifying purchasing a halfassed/beat to death example for the same asinine amount of money.  For an affordable, point to point, all-weather capable performance car, a wagon fits the bill.  A swapped wagon, even better.

no.  the front diff in a 5spd is 3.90 (for USDM anyway), the rear is a 3.54.  there is a 1.1 stepper in the ass end of the transmission that makes the rear effectively a 3.90

if you run a 4.44 rear, you need a 4.44 front, and it will change if you keep the 1.1 stepper, so calculate accordingly.  otherwise your center diff will scream in pain

or weld up the tranny and RWD and run whatever the fuck rear diff you want.  gas mileage beware
