I find my life at works goes a lot smoother when I just do my stuff and let other people worry about all the rest LOL

At any rate, I've finally gotten around to looking up info on my cable modem and have found that it is a DOCSIS 2.0 modem, according to something I read on TW's site a couple days ago, anything at the turbo level or higher should be using a DOCSIS 3.0 modem.  Though apparently their policy is to only provide that for the "Ultimate" package customers.

If I'm reading things right in the differences between the 2.0 and 3.0, it seems that 2.0 standards are good enough for "Turbo" package speeds for a single device at a time, however, the requirements for the 3.0 standards are that it can support the same throughput speed on at least 4 devices at a time....which is more in line with what I need.
So now I'm on to scouring reviews of the devices in TW's approved modems list

Take a look at their site, for the list of "approved" modems.

You definitely want a docsis 3 modem. I'm looking at the Motorola SB6141, which is up to around $125.

If you already have a decent router I would avoid any of the gateway modems; you're just looking for problems.

yup, got the listing here

the reason I was hoping for one that serves as a modem and a router is because the cable comes into the back room, which was used as Kims home office when we had it installed, and might be again in the future.  While everything else is in the living room at the other end of the apartment.  So I've already got one long cable running across the whole apartment to get from the modem to the router, I didn't want to have to run another one back to where it started in the first place.

I was looking at the SBG6580, but it gets mixed reviews for the wireless connectivity...if I give up on the idea of having a wireless base at both ends of the apartment then I'd be looking at that SB6141 as well.  That would still let us set up a work computer wired in at the office, the SB6141 would become the controlling router for everything else, with the assigning of IP addresses and all that stuff, and the routers out here in the living room would basically just be used as switches and the single WiFi access point.  I'm not convinced there's anything decent about the router I have now lol

Told Tome Warner to fuck themselves with their modem rental fee and bought my own. Got a TW approved Motorola Surfboard SB6141 and had them switch it over tonight. Luckily it was a quick and simple process because so many people are calling in and doing the same thing!  Very happy with the new 3.0 modem.
By the way, I have basic service (10D/1U) but I only have Roadrunner (the cable is not split at all).
