Strut question?
« on: May 13, 2007, 07:24:58 PM »
I took my front struts out to install my Max-C camber plates... The drivers side spring was NOT on the perch... and I realized there is no rubber gasket on the perch, or the bottom of the spring...

Is there supposed to be?

I put the passenger side together before I pulled out the driverside... So I wasn't aware there was a problem... I tried to feel around in there on the passenger side, but I cant tell if there is or not.. Just thought it would be easier to ask....

Also any idea WHY? the spring would not be seated on the perch? It was definitly on there when I installed the springs... Could it be from jumping?

You should have a rubber stoppper on the bottom to keep the springs from rolling around. I cant tell you why it's not there, it could have came off when you hit a large enough bump or maybe someone took the struts out before and never put it back on.

Without that rubber stopper the spring probably lost 1/2"-3/4" of heigth making the spring loose even when the strut was assembled. If that is the case that is why the spring is off the perch.

Thanx...

I wouldn't have discarded it.... Must have fallen out!???! I disassembled it before ~20k miles ago... I couldn't remember if there was one or not...

Hm... next question... Anyone got one? They want to sell ?

Maybe Fred can get me one? Just the drivers side, I can't see the green spring on the passenger side and think it must still there...

A lot of times they are stuck to the stock springs and when removed they fall off and roll away un notuced. It is really hard for the front one to fall off once installed because the front suspenssion is always loaded due to the engine weight.

The front suspension is NOT always loaded on my car... I do catch air almost on a daily basis....

If you are catching enough air to throw the OEM spring rubbers completely off the car, your cars under carriage would be ruined, unless you are a Pro Rally competitor.

Like I said before you may not want to admit it but you probably left them off by mistake/ didnt have them to begin with/ or put them on impropperly and they came out. However in the latter you would have noticed a change in the NVH from the struts immedietly.

You just need to get 2 and install them before you trash your struts.

:-D Yeah it is ruined

I have had the full exhaust replaced 3times.. 2times under warrentee ;)

the frame is starting to rust bad from being scraped soo much.... Floor pans have already been replaced once (my cost)... and everything repainted...

If you have seen my car you would understand... It is completely trashed.. I dont give a rats ass about my car.. Its cheap and fun to beat the hell out of ;)

I guess its possible someone @ the dealership may have left them off.. I bent my front struts once got them replaced under warrante ;)

I have the stock springs.. and i looked in the box, not there... I did not leave them off if they were on there... Well I did this time, cause they are non-existant.. I don't care anymore.. the car only has another 10kmiles left in it anyways... (the rust is taking over!)
