Shifter problem!
« on: August 17, 2007, 04:36:43 PM »
Hi, I am having problems with my shifter, I just bought a Kartboy short shifter, and after installing that, it started to pop out of the socket once in a while while I was driving, and I had to stop on the road and fix it. Now it is happening all the time, and I tried to put the stock shifter back in, but it also slips out of the socket. I think the socket that the ball on the end of the shifter fits into is too loose, and I was wondering, does anyone know how I can get a replacement socket? My car is an 07 2.5i, although I think any subaru socket would work. Any help would be appreciated! I know there is supposed to be a  clip to retain the tightness of the socket, but I cant find it! please help!

On my'02 there are two o rings around the socket that the ball sits in. There is
also a snap ring on the bottom of the socket that needs to be removed from
under the car. If this ring is missing, the shifter can pull out. Didn't you have to
remove a snap ring in order to install your shifter? I'm not familiar with '07s.

No, I didn't remove a ring to install it.. but it could have came off during the install. I'm still trying to figure it out, I need to take the whole assembly apart and locate the ring if there is one, btw, do you know where I could get new clips or rings for it?  :|

The ring is a Subaru part and is accessed from under the car. No need to take
anything apart. It is kind of hard to find because the driveshaft sort of hides it.
Did you get instructions with your shifter? My B&M came with very good instructions
and pictures. Where do you live? I'm sure one of us must be close and can take a
quick look for you.
