Ok.. Make sure you read it all the way through.. This editor is idolizing Highway Speed Freakz... Granted I am one myself, but I dont believe anyone going out, and risking their life and lots of others should be IDOLIZED!

I wrote a letter the the Editor... I hope everyone does the same.. Publishing BS like this is retarded.... Now all the little 16yo with tacomas are going to go flying down the northway @ ridiculous speeds...

Granted I'm a bit jealous I cant be idolized for doing illegal shit... But it really is bad that people have to read this and think its cool to speed...

I posted about this on Nasioc.  The guys ripped into the driver and author.  Alacrity024 sent the author several messages asking why he was promoting unsafe driving.

He's on R-Speed and one of my friends. The journalist made it look a lot worse than it did.
Quote from him:
"yeah i dunno i had hoped it would be a side note a simple brief story

then i heard it was going to be in the paper on monday so i put it up on here, really a stupid move on my part

i wanted the article to be about how its an every day vehicle with almost 200,000 miles on it and i will be attempting to reach 200mph this year and 240 next year once the engine is rebuilt

the journalist asked me to go for a ride and show him the results of my labor and i punched it for about 5 seconds then slowed down cause we were coming up on traffic

then we got off the exit and as we turned around to come back it started to rain so bad that all of the hiway traffic was doing about 40 (i wasnt speeding) and i was hydroplaining (slipping as he said in the article)

i guess he forgot to take in to consitteration that my smaller "race" tires are infact MUCH smaller than the stock 31"tire causing the speedometer to read 95mph when keeping up with traffic in a 55 zone

the guy made it sound like all i do is speed and i dont give a f-k about anyone else on the road

i have more than my fair share of tickets i have paid my dues and learned my lesson

occasionally yes i speed but who doesnt

all i want to so is see how fast my truck can truly go and inorder to SAFELY do that i have to bring it to the salt flats where i have to pass several tech inspections

if you all want to bust on be for liking to go fast and bringing my truck to the track you better think twice cause im just the same as all you other guys at the lot who are proud of your mustangs and comaros and montecarlos and civics and whatever else you got

we all love cars we all love to talk about cars and to make them go faster
i just happen to have a truck and a bad journalist"

not only is it promoting unsafe driving but on public roadways, WTF!!! And the author sucked at writing this article it sounds like a 5th grader could put words and sentences together better...Go to a sanctioned SCCA event at limerock or the glen and get your license and you can speed legally!! Granted auto-x is great but some people just need to go faster kind of like me in a few years when i get enough money to fund a Spec. Miata!! afro

"i just happen to have a truck and a bad journalist"

I'm pretty sure most of the negative sentiments, though at first directed at the driver, have been shifted to the Author and the TU.  Can you ask your friend if I can post his response on Nasioc?  Right now, we only have one side of the story--the article.  Having both is way better.  Lemme know, I won't post until he ok's it.

Tom gave the link to the OTter's.  I can see it now, a new record set for users browsing R-speed.

Everybody drives like a maniac from time to time, don't deny it!
Ever taken someone for a ride in your car before? Bet you shifted at 3K every time.

The TimesUnion shouldn't have stated him driving like that in public though, that's bad form.  police
Pretty incriminating stuff.

yeah but 160 + slicks + rain? I've never gotten close to that, and when i do drive "spirited" its with good weather conditions, good tires, and a car that's more designed for such an activity...

Well, he posted his response on nasioc.  Got to admit, the guy does have some balls.  It was good to get his side of the story too.

hence why the original title of the thread has remained unchanged "...May be a tool".  Not "is" a tool.  Though the reporter/writer is undoubtedly a person lacking in common sense.
