2.5 Headgasket Years
« on: March 09, 2008, 09:19:47 AM »
What year did Subaru fix the headgasket issue in 2.5s? 2001, right?
Eric

Quote me now while I'm feeling good about it.  I've decided a WRX will be the vehicle that replaces the Jeep.  I can't see paying Evo prices or justifying purchasing a halfassed/beat to death example for the same asinine amount of money.  For an affordable, point to point, all-weather capable performance car, a wagon fits the bill.  A swapped wagon, even better.

Couldn't remember if it was '01 or '03. Its definitely all engines - know a lot of people with 99-2000 SOHC 2.5's that have had the headgasket issues.

Yeah, I don't remember if it was a recall or a tsb, but I believe it went past '01, into '03, '04 even.

yeah dont let the HG issue prevent you from buying a subaru from those years, you can find a ton of information on how to do it yourself and it really isnt that diffifcult

This one has had the headgaskets done ~115,000 miles ago. It has 215,000 on it now.

They might be seeping a bit but haven't noticed a drop in coolant levels so I'll deal.

BTW I can't believe I asked this question a year ago

I work on Saabs and the number ten head bolt will loosen up enough to turn it out by your fingers. I work at a
independent shop in rennselaer.. The approved Saab tsb fix is it to do a head retorque. In my opion its a band-aid. I have a 2004 WRX (130,000 lots of miles to Vermont to take care of parents)and have not done a head gasket. I am not saying I wont. I look and the spot where it leaks at ever oil change so far no leak. I have done HG on a buddys wrx on a weekend. Its straight foward to do with a friend or two. I can offer my help if anyone needs it!!!!
