So I Started A Project....
« on: March 16, 2008, 05:20:05 PM »
And it involves a wing, rear bumper and side skirts!! The wing is a Ver. 5, Du-Luck Rear bumper and some stylelish skirts.  I am hoping to have it all sanded and painted and put on the car by the end of my break which is the end of these two coming weeks!! I started the wing today and will have that on by the end of tomorrow most likely.  The bumper will take a little longer and skirts should take about a day. I will get some pics up by tomorrow probably!! Oh yeah of course thanks to Fred for the parts, this will keep me busy for a while, and will look nice once im done!!

Here is the wing on the car for now, im taking it off sometime this week to re-paint because it did not come out well! The bumper is sitting in the basement waiting to be sanded, some places need some more fiberglass.  And the skirts i will get in before the weekend probably and start sanding and painting them. What would be a good gloss black paint to use?? I may clearcloat all the parts if they come out too dull.

if you sand those down you will find 3 different colors + primer  :2funny:

You could shave off quite a few pounds if you did....

The wing had black primer then a blue coat, the bumper looks the same and the skirts just have a blue coat! The wing was pretty easy, im crying over how much work needs to be to the bumper to get it to where i want! Probably wont have it done till this weekend!

Friday i will start sanding the skirts and then paint them and hopefully have them on by friday night but nothing ever goes as planned!!

Nice man, I like how it looks from the back! Just needs an exhaust to fill up that gap

i used to have a can that would have filled that nicely but i took it off because it was only and axle back, i will be making a 2.5" cat back when it gets nicer out though!!

Hey Greg did you use a clearcoat? I'm about to paint my sideskirts... rustoleum has a bright coat that matches PSM almost identically, but it says on the can "Clear coat is not recommended for this product"  Guys on "the big forum that piss of people on our forum" made the discovery of the almost exact match and they clear coated. I really don't have any clear coating experience, so I'm trying to figure out if it would help or if I should just follow the instructions on the can. Also, what did you use for drying times? I also read if you don't let things fully dry it can spider vain... Thanks a bunch!

i'm not gonna lie, all those items were can sprayed, i clear coated the wing and skirts as you can tell, the bumper is not clear coated!! since these were all fiberglass it was fairly easy sanding, make sure to pick up a can of black or grey primer!! i used 80 grit but i never went up in grit so i have alot of lines from the sand paper (will fix that eventually).

See what the paint looks like before you decide to clearcoat and if its not shiny enough (most likely wont be) then throw clear coat on!!  its a bit of process but worth it, i got too excited with my items and just chucked them on; first throw your primer on let sit for around 20 mins, should be good for your first coat, i let each coat sit for about an hour! make sure to just watch the run, clear coat spraying is a bitch because its clear and you cant see it too well if it runs, it happened to me on the skirts!

oh yeah make sure to grab a tack clothe too that was a life saver for me with all the fiberglass particles flying around!! anymore questions let me know sir!
