Well their is a long way and a Short way.
If you do it right the first time you can get by every week doing the Short way. It takes alot of time and patience but you see the end result.
Porter cable huh. A 7242 or 7336? Where you get it? Lowes has em for 50 some times on sale.
Remember if using liquid poilish or wax. Don't use a lot and place it in the middle of the applicator pad. Otherwise you spin wax everywhere.
use a 18 x 18 " area. Apply left to right till box is full. then up and down till box is full. work the wax in at 3 till its broken down.
Once Its even, Turn up the Speed and buff the area till Clean and polished.
LIGHT! to moderate pressure with the applicator pad. Otherwise you
WILL scratch your Finish.
The porter Cable is a beautiful invention is allows NUBS like us to detail or own cars and not put swirl marks in it. Saves ALOT OF TIME.

Process is really quite simple.
Wash car,
Dry Car,
Spot treat Car,
Clay Car,
Clean car,
Wipe clean area to treat.
begin with light abrasive Compound and use FINE SMALL little circles until it is even coated and broken down.
APPLY neccessary coats till scratch is removed or whatever.
Then Top it off with mequiars Gold Class.
then Top it off with Mequiars No 26! That's the ticket right their...
Finish with detail spray..
