The STi got some fat tires and 17x9's
« on: May 28, 2008, 10:56:04 PM »
First off I have to admit I bought these wheels after Fred told me about the set he got for his rhd GC8 project.  I figures since mine are going on a GD we'd be good. Plus I painted mine a different color since neither of us wanted CHROME!

They are just some cheapo Sportmax wheels.  They are even discontinued AFAIK.  But if any of you have looked you'll know that finding a 5x100 17" wider than 8" is pretty tough.  These are even one step better because they are 38 offset. Pushing them out a bit more and no need for a spacer to clear the brembo's or the coilover.
The  biggest downside is the weight...at 22.5 lbs. each they are not lightweight. Although looking at Enkei's today I saw that their new GTC1 in 17x9 is just over 20lbs.

what do you think?

with my 18" advans? IDK, keeping them for shows I guess.  For now at least. If (when) my wheel bearing go in the rear I may upgrade/update to the newer sti hubs...then all my wheels will go up for sale!

here's some cut and paste from nasioc
2004 STi
Type of wheel: Sportmax 050 (discontinued and found on ebay)(home painted)
Wheel Specs: 17x9 +38 22 lbs each
Tire specs: falken azenis 255/40 17
Fender Modification: Rolled 1/2 way in the rear. maybe I'll go flat someday
Camber: f:-3 r:-1.3
Suspension setup: KGMM DNA coilovers-inverted f&r camber tophats/swift springs 12k front 10k rear. Damn stiff...far more than megan track coilovers.
No rubbing yet but I only went to get pizza tonight.
I run the standard Nasioc accepted ride height for performance driving. I mainly autocross this car but the track is where I'd like to be. I drag too but I use the lighter wheels for that.

Whoa.  Sorry to thread jack but how did you get your wing to sit so far back.  Is that something you can buy or was it custom?

Nice to see the wheel wells full- I do like the Advans a little better but it looks awsome anyway. They definatly look better gold to, as per our last conversation about mine not filling the well- I ordered hub centric wheel spacers-theyll be here tomarrow( 20mm f, 25mm r) Ill put up some pics when their on

You should be able to buy it.  If you look closely you'll notice his wing is huge-er as well.
