My friend has an 04 Legacy and recently she was driving on the northway with the cruise control on and it went off and the CEL light came on.  the light stayed on and the cruise didn't work.  3 days later the CEL light went off and now its working again.  She lives up in Schroon Lake so its not easy to just drop it off at the dealer so does anyone have any suggestions/recomendations?
Thanks,
Ken

You can take it to advance autoparts and they'll scan it for free. The code is still in the ecu unless you reset it after the cel went away. Bring back the code and we can give you some help, otherwise its all guesswork.

Whenever I have a problem with my car the dealer has no problem giving me a loner.
Eric

Quote me now while I'm feeling good about it.  I've decided a WRX will be the vehicle that replaces the Jeep.  I can't see paying Evo prices or justifying purchasing a halfassed/beat to death example for the same asinine amount of money.  For an affordable, point to point, all-weather capable performance car, a wagon fits the bill.  A swapped wagon, even better.

the cruise not working is just a new thing when you get a check engine light.  It is not another problem.  Have her get her car checked by someone with a code reader(like me or advanced or autozone) and then she'll know if she needs to bring it in to the dealer or not.
