It's been over a year since my thread has had a new post but the forum could use a good rant...

Staggered wheels on FWD cars.  Before I go on an assualt, let me clarfy, if you have staggered wheels on a FWD and the wider wheels are on the front, then you might drag race or understand suspension dynamic.  The follwoing pertains to those who don't

FWD with staggered wheels makes baby jesus cry.  Poor wheel selection accompanied by slammed ride heights ruins handling.  It's a vortex pandemic thats spreading from first time drivers to old fucks.  There's an older gentleman,50's,I drive by on ocassion on my way to work.  His ride of choice; MK4 Golf, slammed prolly airbags, staggered, black with time attack lip wheels.

Generally, the only response I get is, bro it looks dope!  Good for you.  You have "modified" a car to be WORSE than stock but subjectively "looks" better.

Over lowering the car, fuck-ups roll center and center of gravity, especially on a mach strut.  Increasing tire contact patch increases traction.  Ideally, running the same size tire yields equal traction on each corner.  Running different tires will make a car less neutral.  Putting wide wheels on the rear of a FWD car will give more traction to the rear.  When the front wheels break traction, they have to overcome the increased grip of the rears.  end result is understeer, waaay more than stock, which is already unacceptable.

How about wider wheels on the front of a rear wheel drive?  Yesterday I was following some tool with a completely stock late 90's CLK 320 with what I swear to be the rears on the front.  MB used a slightly wider rim in the rear on a lot of cars and I think this douche couldn't tell the difference...

well, aren't you supposed to rotate your tires every so many miles?  Who wants to be bothered with dismounting and mounting just because of a little size difference  :-D

The Penguin is like a Ritz Carlton lobby bar compared to the shitholes that I stumble through.

Hahahahahahhahah.  I like it.  All this from the guy who has not once stayed out past, what, 11:30 ?  Never.   I can't help it that when we meet up, you want to grab a Kobe burger, creme' brulee, and sip from golden rimmed snifters.  Come wander with me 'till 5am, just once..

LOL.  Really though, there's nothing in Troy worth it to stay up till 5am.
I spent years partying in NYC and Boston.  I still play out on occasion.  You don't have to tell me what night life is like

If he's a young modern-ish-MB owner, then he couldn't tell the difference between 1st and 3rd on a manual, I'll bet.  For a car whose first association to me was from my grandfather (a USN XO) owning them since the 60's, I've been amazed at the tools who are getting them nowadays...  And ruining them.

I'm not gonna read through the rest of this thread.  All I'l say is that I've yet to see a well-done "slammed" car.  They all screw it up somehow.  Of course, that assumes there IS a right way to do it... which I doubt.

Actual race cars get it right all the time.

Fair enough.  I was thinking more street car, but very true, racers do it right.  Don't they usually rebuild most of the suspension, though, not just cut the springs?

They usually take a picture of the car, then build parts and a body that sort of resembls the original car.

Fuck staggered and slammed anything.  This is Upstate NY, fucker.  Cool Zamboni.   But really Sean, you know that essentially anyone that is pushing a slammed and staggered FWD ride, understands that ride and handling dynamics have been sacrificed, all for a look.  That's the annoying bit as far as I'm concerned.  Dubbers for life, brah.

Brother man, you must be crazy...    1)  I come to every meet that matters (Bar or pancakes..).
                                                                         2)  You couldn't hang with me at a dive bar.  The Penguin is like a Ritz
