Anyone Need Anything Painted?
« on: November 19, 2003, 01:41:25 AM »
I recently had a couple spots touched up on my WRX and the guy did a really nice job. The job was done for free as part of the deal with my dealership.  Anyway, he's offered to do some free painting of a part I have in exchange for me getting his name out there. His name is Jim Blackman and is somewhat local to me. I'm not 100% sure of the details, but I'll know more on Thurs. If anyone needs anything painted let me know as it seems like this guy might be willing to give us some sweet prices.

On a side note, Chris(ALTR EVO) and I are possibly in the process of buying our own paint guns and an air compressor to do our own work. So, if u want a professional Jim might be the way to go, but if u want 2 guys that will work our a$$'s off to make it perfect then we are the guys for the job.

cool deal.  I should also mention, I have a degree in automotive repair and specialized in body repair, so Nick and I aren't going into this blind.

i'll find out more on thurs. if anyone wants some quotes let me know and i can ask him. i'm sure he'd be happy to cut us some deals.

as for chris and me painting, our prices will obviously be very good as well. we haven't quite come up with what we'd charge, but it will be fair of course.

don't do them, don't paint the stock side skirts, the paint will peal off. trust me i had my friend try it not on my car but on the same material and we tested it by putting 0out the window of my car and at aobut 40mph it stated pealing off, even after we primed and painted 4 layers, plus 3 of clear

they are not a good thing to paint. they tke a real beating on the car, i think thats why they are black anyways

i got a friend that could do the whole front end of a car for 600$ cash no questions. and yes he dose an amazing job!!
he i on state st./cental ave.  schenectady,albany

that would inc front lip too, or new bumper

really? then how do the subaru dealers do it then? they sell painted side skirts and all...wouldnt just adding a flex agent to the paint make it hold?

Painted Side Skirts
« Reply #8 on: November 20, 2003, 11:28:03 PM »
I would love to get a "GB" on painted side skirts.  Plenty of the So Cal guys had it done for pretty cheap (group rate) and the paint stood the test of time.  As posted above,  the right amount of flex and surface prep is the key.

So in short, I'd be interested in painting my sideskirts -

so after talking to jim last night he said he'd do some painting for us. he can't handle like 10 things at once, but whenever someone needs some painting he said he'd do it. i asked what pricing he offered, but he said it will vary per item. what i ask u to do, if u are serious about getting something painted, get a quote from somewhere local to u. if he's not going to offer us decent prices then there is no sense is going to him. i told him i would get his name out there, but when i asked about prices he said he didn't know. i asked if he'd beat what other shops charge and his answer wasn't too convincing. so, he's doing some painting for me next week and i'll talk to him and get more info. i'm not going to advertise his name if he's not going to hook our club up.

Well i was wrong i guess there is a way that u can paint your side skirts. but  i thought that is was just not a good idea, sorry. guess i r not a bright one, forgot that the sand it down and then do other crap

Hey, i forgot to mention this. I know a guy who would power coat rims for 50-100$ a piece depending on how hard and how much power is used. i meet him at the Schenectady Hot Rod car show.

i spoke with jim yesterday and he said he can do the side skirts for $80 a piece. not sure how comparable that is to other places. if u can find someone to do them cheaper let me know and i'll tell him. basically, it seems like he wants our business. i will want proof though that u can get it done cheaper.

so that's 80 per skirt, so $160 total?

yeah, but i'd like to get that price lower. i'm only going to work with this guy if he hooks us up, not gives us the price anyone could get.
