My ABS light comes on at random its been off for about 2 of 3 months but came back on about three days ago.  Does anyone have any idea what the problem could be?

It seems to me the problem is that your abs light is coming on.

On my 04 STi the ABS sensor on one of the wheels would... freak out... occasionally. Usually in the snow, after I blasted through a parking lot or something. If your ABS sensor is somehow damaged or starting to go I believe it can throw the light on.

My abs light keeps comming on and off about every few days... it happened right after I had some1 put all new rotors and pads in it. It makes a weird noise from the front wheels/the abs kicks in for a second and the brakes don't really grab for a second usually when going slower and still ont he brakes like stopping for a stop sign or something... ne ideas with that? not sure if its a similar problem...

the brakes seem to be working fine just the damn light.  There was a few times last winter when they acted weird when i was on ice but its my first car with abs, so i'm not sure.

Acting weird on ICE and Subaru ABS go hand in hand. Pull the fuse this winter - ABS on ice can actually increase your stopping distance.

The brakes on my STi always worked fine, just that one of the sensors in the wheels would freak out.

I believe pulling the fuse effectively turns off your ABS and makes your vehicle's breaks "normal". Some people find that more comforting (the control) and others (from what I've read) like to get rid of the patented "ABS freakout" on bumps and poor traction.

I only did it in winter, returned the fuse during summer. The Subaru ABS is way over sensitive at least from 04 up ... not sure if it has been fixed in the newer cars or not.

so pulling the fuse will help it to stop better?

only on ice because subaru abs sucks on ice!!!!!

chances are a bad abs sensor, and if you had brakes off/ or changes springs or struts. someone might have pulled on the sensor wire and it is developing a short, that would explain the light going on and off, so chances are it is just a bad abs sensor. You need to read the code at a dealer though for ABS. That would narrow down what sensor it is. If it is a front passenger side i have a used one, i could sell you on the cheap side of things

On my old Leg I could get the ABS to 'give up'.  After playing around in the snow, the ABS light would come on, and I'd have brakes that locked-at-will.
