2009 48hrs of Tristate Official Info
« on: November 17, 2008, 12:14:27 AM »
That's right folks, it's that time of the year again, when we all break out of the winter blues of no car shows, no auto-x, no road racing, no drag strips and head out on the open highway for a good cause.  This is the 8th Annual running where a group of Subaru enthusiasts from all over the TriState area take a 3 day long trip covering about 48hrs of driving overall from Subaru Headquarters in NJ to the wintery snow of the Adirondacks.

This year we are planning on about 900 miles of highways, backroads and no roads with dinners and partys every night.  We also will be visiting SOA headquarters in Cherry Hill, NJ we will also be visiting Subaru Distributors Corp, the company that distributed most of our cars, and Vermont Sports Car where they build rally cars for SOA.  Last year we raised over $13,000 for the American Cancer Society from pledges that the participants gathered and SOA's matching donations!  Our goal this year is to raise over $8,000 for ACS.

The trip will start with a dinner kickoff in Cherry Hill, NJ on Thurs Night Jan 15, 2008.  We will continue on Friday morning with a visit to Subaru of America Headquarters for breakfast and then the drive will take our Subies up to SDC Headquarters for a catered lunch.

Friday night we end in Burlington, VT.  Saturday morning we have a tour of Vermont Sports Car planned, a treat for any Rally fans out there. Sat night after cruising the Northern Adirondacks we will end up at Dunham's Bay Resort in Lake George for our Raffle Banquet.  Sunday will take us down through central NYS ending at our closing dinner meet in Scranton, PA

All kinds of Subies are welcome on this trip.  We've had XT6s, GLs, DLs, Legacies, Brats, you name it!

Several companies also have provided us with door prizes for those participating!  In past years we've had $1000s and $1000s worth of raffle prizes!

The important info:
What: Group drive to raise money for ACS and have a fun 900+ mile trip along the way.
Where: Starts in Cherry Hill, NJ and continues throughout NJ and NY with stops in Burlington, VT the Adirondacks, Lake George and Scranton, PA
When: Jan 15- Jan 18, 2009
More info: http://48hrs.info

Highlights….
o Tour of VT Sports Car facility, where they build the Subaru Rally Cars (Awaiting Official Confirmation)
o SPT will have the SEMA Forester XTI and Rescue Vehicles on hand at SOA for us to check out for ourselves
o Biggest, Best Raffle Banquet
o SDC will be giving away in excess of $4,000 in prizes this year!
o Catered Breakfast at SOA and possibly a tour of the Subaru Museum of Cars
o Catered Lunch at SDC

I may be able to go this year.  How do the overnight stays work?  We book our own?  Do we get discounted rates?  Are there planned lunch stops? Pee brakes?  Important q's for a newb to the 48hours.

Yeah under lodging on the site there is the info about hotels.  I am still ironing out the deals on the hotels.  Everyone books their own or finds folks to share with, as for pee breaks yup we take em, one of the cars only can go about 150-200 miles per tank so we will be stopping at least that many times.

Last year, Keith and I went on the Cooperstown - Lake George section. If time or whatnot is a concern, you could possibly do that with us. That required no overnights, but gave us > 400 miles of fun.

I think there will be a big UNYSOC turn out so we should plan this nice and early. We can all drive out together to meet up with the others.

I'll definitely be doing the Cooperstown - Lake George stretch again. It was a lot of fun. If anyone would like to trek down that morning with me, I'll do a signup as the date approaches. It's a straight shot down I-88 to exit 17 (we could meet at the Citgo @ 25A), and then a few miles on that road.

Just remember to bring $10 for the signs that get put on our cars (I'm almost positive this is refunded at the end).

Here are some pics from last year:

Cooperstown Bed & Breakfast:

Parking Lot I

Parking Lot II

Parking Lot III

Parking Lot IV

Parking Lot V

Parking Lot VI

My attempt to take a picture of the long string of cars out my sideview mirror as we were getting ready to begin the trip - I was in the middle of the pack.

I did not get to take a picture of all the cars here we had during the leg of the trip I participated in here, because I wanted to socialize and meet everyone (people arrived at the B&B after I put the camera away), and we picked up people at various points along the route.

Gas Station Mayhem

We stopped for gas 3X during the trek. This was our first stop at a gas station, and this parking lot was by far the largest - the locals were pretty upset when they had to deal with the crowd, but every gas station loved us (high-octane gas guzzlers, and a bunch of junkfood at each stop - they made a killing from us). I didn't take pictures of any of the other stations, because it was too hectic with 40 vehicles trying to share a small parking lot and 4 pumps (the lot was big enough for us to fit about 30 of the vehicles, so we had to rotate parking on the street once we finished gassing up).

Lineup (behind)

Lineup (halfway)

I wanted to get a picture from the front, but by the time I got the third picture snapped, people were beginning to get anxious to continue driving, so I had to jump in the car and go.

Absolutely, last time I posted it on a SAAB site it didn't get much air-play but go ahead that would be AWSOME.

The prizes are actually part of a Raffle.  You buy raffle tickets or sell raffle tickets and as a result of those sales 100% of that money goes toward the ACS Donation.  We will be selling the raffle tickets online and the winners need not even be present to win.

There is no Cooperstown section this year.  The $10 for the Magnetic Signs is actually donated to ACS.

I'll hop in for at least 1 leg of this.   From the picks, looks like y'all needed more Baja.  If finances and time allow, I'd do 2 legs or the whole thing.  I wonder if anyone in cherry hill knows anything about my car.   :coolsmiley:

VT Sports Car has been confirmed today.

Also looks like at least part of the Subaru Museum will be on display for us under a big tent in the parking lot at SOA!

I have been trying to register as a team member but I keep getting an error message. When I fill out the event I am participating in it tells me " Maximum response size exceeded. Please limit your response to 255 characters, (approximately 5 rows of text)." and all I wrote was "09 Tri-state Subaru meet". I put one letter or number in and get the same message. It doesnt let me put anything in there. When I leave it blank it tells me I must fill it in.... Anyone having a similar problem?

Try "2009 48hrs of Tristate" it may not like the "-" in there.
