is there anyone who details cars around here anymore?
« on: December 02, 2008, 06:17:56 PM »
i know that detailed image guy was kicking around, but i dont know what happened to him

i need a claybar (to get rid of all the residue i left peeling off my badges and those god awful body side moldings) and a buff

i know thats gonna be hard to do this time of year but i figured id ask, i suck at detailing, and id like to either get it done professionally or have someone who knows what theyre doing tackle it in exchange for monetary payment.

Marty a.k.a. Photofixer
Eric

Quote me now while I'm feeling good about it.  I've decided a WRX will be the vehicle that replaces the Jeep.  I can't see paying Evo prices or justifying purchasing a halfassed/beat to death example for the same asinine amount of money.  For an affordable, point to point, all-weather capable performance car, a wagon fits the bill.  A swapped wagon, even better.

he does a hell of a job on his car.  Black has never looked better.  That thing shined.
he helped out my keyed area  :tickedoff: (at being keyed, not him lol) and made it look better. Unfortunately, it was to deep to remove.  Someday i'll get the fixed

Yeah, his work is pretty amazing. I was really concerned about my car the first couple times I detailed it, but to be honest Its really not too bad. All you need to do is take your time, research, and have the right materials. I don't consider my work professional by any means, otherwise I'd offer to help you out. I get a lot of sick pleasure out of detailing my car for 7 hours in decent weather.  :smitten:

nice.  yeah patience i have none, and i know washing/detailing a car is good exercise and i try to get some of that in but i dont really like doing it to be honest.  I do manual labor for a living and all i want to do when im not at work is sit around and be lazy.

thats cool that you can do it in the winter though, shall i pm you when i figure out what a good weekend for me to do it is?  typically i have saturdays off.

Sooo jealous.. Me and a buddy of mine actually washed our cars out in a public wash bay (with our own supplies) on a day it got below freezing... It made things.. Interesting.  :-o

I have to run to my moms to do mine.  I dont know what the hell but it seems like I always put swirls in or at least, dont take them away. Not that the car didn't come with plenty.  after my spoiler, then next buy will be a 7424.  And detailing can be relaxing in awesome weather but you forgot an important detailing tool......the 12 pack

been there before, thats such a shitty feeling, your hands stinging from teh cold.
i wish i'd had the foresight to get some rubber gloves.

i just use the touchless wash now, but eventually im gonna buy some of that optimum no-rinse car soap and use that in the garage just to get it washed by hand.  i know its good stuff but its so weird to wash a car and not need a hose to continually keep it wet.  :o

I think im just going to quick-detail problem spots (like sap, birds, exceptional road gunk) and rely on touchless beyond that during the winter season. Seriously, the soapy water was freezing on the cars, it was BS!

Best way to wash (if avail to you) is a heated water source - its tricky but its possible kind of depends on how you detail and where though. Winter in the NE has its challenges to Detailers.

Wanted to do my winter detail today, woke up at 9.  " Oh yeah, Its nice and sunny.  could it be a 40 degree day out".
but noooooo, its 23 degrees.   No wash and wax today.  I did spray her down at carwash to try and get most of the salt off at least.

To those pics.... :-o I don't think I've ever seen a black car shine like that. very impressive.

Photofixer:  PM me if you see this, I'm wondering what it would cost to have mine done?  I was considering that no-rinse wash stuff, but I'm in the same boat as most of the commenters, even with no-rinse, a non-heated garage is never any fun

They need to add the touchless car wash.  But damn, that guy sure has some expansive wax.

Paul Dalton from Miracle Detail is a MASTER at the craft and truly a moving force for real detailers. His swissvax mix he designed leaves an amazing finish (Crystal Rock).  Really though he is a wealth of knowledge and experience but very humble and down to earth- which is surprising seeing his clients' cars include Veyrons, CCX, Zondas and the likes.
