Stumble/Misfire below 2000rpm
« on: January 11, 2009, 06:08:15 PM »
ITs just annoying and doesn't affect anything but my gas mileage (yet) but anytime I try to accelerate and the car is below 2000rpm (starting from a red light, shifting into 2nd and to less effect 3rd) the car shudders and misfires. Not clutch chatter either, with the exhaust leak (Fred: The gasket blew out, now its loud! Funny though) I can definitely tell its misfiring. Not throwing any check engine lights though.

Coil?
Spark plugs/wires?

Its a DOHC so they're even more of a PITA to change than normal.

Quote me now while I'm feeling good about it.  I've decided a WRX will be the vehicle that replaces the Jeep.  I can't see paying Evo prices or justifying purchasing a halfassed/beat to death example for the same asinine amount of money.  For an affordable, point to point, all-weather capable performance car, a wagon fits the bill.  A swapped wagon, even better.

How many miles are on the current plugs/wires?

My old leggy at 140k or so had some ancient stuff on, and the factory wires.  When I changed them, the wires disintegrated in my hands.  And that was well short of 3.5 million miles.

Honestly, I don't have any idea how many on current plugs/wires. I have to think they were changed... at least the plugs... when the headgaskets were done ~100,000 miles ago. I figure that a simple plug/wire change will fix my problem but I wanted to be sure it wasn't anything else.

Thanks - I've gotta do some maintenance today/this weekend so I'll see if I can do the plugs at the same time.

Ended up busy this weekend. Its much less pronounced now that the exhaust is fixed and super silent. Still does it and I know I need plugs and wires, just had some unexpected stuff come up.

I'll update the thread as soon as I get enough flex-tensions to get the plugs out.
