North Country Imports
« on: January 18, 2009, 08:20:23 AM »
Been a while since i posted on here but saw this thread and figured it was worth while to put my two cents in.

I bought my Legacy at North Country Imports back in October.  The dealership was very helpful.  Unfortunately for them I am one of those car shoppers that wants what they want and wont accept something because its what is on the lot.  I went in and drove several cars dealing with Chuck Kelsey.  From the first time that i was there looking at an impreza to the last couple times where i drove foresters and finally an automatic legacy which was the only one they had and blocked into the showroom.  Chuck was more then happy to move a few cars for me so I could drive the Legacy in the showroom knowing full well i wasn't going to buy that one because I wanted a stick in diamond grey metallic.  I drove the car liked everything except the slush box and the color.  He located a car in Syracuse and three days later I had the exact car i wanted in my drive way.

I have not been in for service yet since i only drive to the verizon store and back from glens falls like 2 miles each way but otherwise my experience with them was excellent.  Having worked at a car dealership previously I was impressed with how they handled things i will post again after my first service visit.

yea well that is anywhere with the service advisers, too bad for most of them i already have a really good idea of what is wrong or needs to be done with my car long before i make it there.  realistically the only thing my car is going to go there for is the complementary free oil change and any warranty type repairs

It's been a few years...  and I only had one experience at this dealership.  I believe this was in late 06...

They used to have a reputation for being mod friendly, or so I thought.  I had a lightweight flywheel + RPS 6-puck clutch installed at this dealership.  My STI had the stock motor, FMIC, and a rotated gt35r kit on it.  I probably should have told them about the mods first.  I dropped my car off there for the clutch install.  A couple days later when I went to pick it up, they were super pissed off and said that they would never work on a modified car again, and would inspect all customer vehicles for modifications prior to agreeing to work on a car.  For some odd reason they had unwrapped my downpipe (there was no reason), the positive battery terminal was only hand tight, and they left some big gouge marks on the block + transmission from when they were trying to separate them.

haha I remember that.  Well keep in mind mod friendly is not the same as mod experienced.  I'm 99% your car was the first owner installed rotated mount turbo system they had seen.

IMHO they are still a great bunch of guys.  Yeah some days the service advisers are friendlier than others, but they will always do their best to help me.(even though most of the time I'm trying to diagnose a problem I plan to fix myself)

I agree completely!

They did install the clutch/flywheel with no issues.  And I've never had a good experience at a dealership so all my feedback needs to be taken with a grain of salt.  But oh boy were they pissed about the gt35r!  haha

Thought I'd add in here that I know Chuck Kelsey and the Service Department at North Country very well. My family has been going there for several years now and their service has been outstanding. Especially the Service Department, which has put up with my meticulous-ness and ocd over my Subaru's for a few years now, haha. And I definitely have always boasted how they are completely honest in servicing your vehicle. You'll find the same service in sales with a no pressure attitude making for a pleasent buying experience that's extremely hard to come by these days.
