The schools are a good way for beginners to get a taste of autocrossing, and to pick up a few pointers from instructors who will be available to ride with you.  Or, if you're already a seasoned autocrosser, the school also acts as a "test and tune", which allows you to shake the rust off your driving skills, test your new setup/parts, or just have some fun.

Back-to-back events: You may run 1 or both of those events such as the April 25-26 or July 11-12 events. If you aren't an SCCA member, your temporary membership on the 1st day's event gives you member pricing on your 2nd day's entry.  I'll confirm entry fee amounts, but they should be the same as last year from what I remember.

You can follow the updates on MoHud's forum (http://www.mohud-scca.org/Discuss/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=1704), but I'll try to post updates here, too.

You're not fooling anyone, you don't autocross.  :-)

Dave, I haven't seen any discussion, what tire did you pick?

i got 225-45-17 Hoosiers from "Kevin's Tire Warehouse".  They're the R6's.  I talked to kevin and councillor styles for a bit about it and it seems to be the smartest choice.  The car's heavy, has 2 drivers, and some power, so I'm confident I can keep heat in the tires.  I'm beefing up the pads all around and will hopefully have the 2-pot rear wrx brakes and meaty vented rotor installed before the season starts.

Might as well spill the beans, I have some 18x8" wheels with 245-45-18's on them for my new DD or rain tires.

You'll have a blast, especially with the test and tunes and 'school' days.  Virtually limitless runs and great instructors.

Even though I've been doing this for a little while, I'm still gonna get my learnin' on.

I'm hoping for a good season.  It'll be interesting to see if the economy impacts our entrant counts or not.  I know I've sure done my part to boost this economy with parts purchases this off-season...

SM is just a never-ending arms race.  :|

Dave, is that shortbus Kevin and R6s that he brought to the last event, or someone else and new? He had some applicable 15"s I could have used, but weren't in great shape. I'm hoping I'll luck into some replacements for my V710s at the right moment...

I wasn't at the last event:  he had a bunch of them in his garage that were only heat cycled a few times, so they were properly broken in.

As far as the Arms race, I gotta laugh at that.  Even with all my planned mods done, I don't think I could catch up with you, EJ, byron, styles, and certainly not russ.  I run for the Laughs.  It's the only competition Baja in the world that's currently running.

What does one need to enter such an event. Just show up? helmets? pre-event sign ups? large numbers of dollars?

They have loaner helmets for n00bs, a good idea to try out instead of forking over cash for a snell-rated helmet before you know if you like it or not.

With an SCCA membership:  most are 25 bucks to enter. (I think...I should probably go to a meeting.  It's listed on mohud-scca.org)

Without, it's $15 for a 'weekend' membership on top of the standard fee.  The first couple of $15 temp memberships can be put toward your standard membership, which is somewhere around 70 bucks.  You can also get a discount by putting someone's scca member number as a referral.  (PM me and I'll hit you up with my member number).

All in all, I reccomend a couple of temp memberships until you know you really like it.  A-X is fun driving on the cheap, but you have to work the course too, which can involve roasting on the tarmac frying pan or getting poured on.

There are several area autocrosses that technically aren't SCCA events that are a boatload of fun as well.  The tri-vettes have one in the spring and fall near Sacandaga, on an old go-kart track, so there's no course work.

I think you'll enjoy yourself.  Your runs will be more than double the drag length of time and you'll be using all 3 pedals, the shifter and the wheel.
