Wow, my goal is a lot less ambitious:  simply not going sideways all the time.  I haven't driven a powerful RWD car in a long, long time.

Powerful you say?

IS300 ≠ Powerful lol

It's an awesome platform to work with and should be great fun though

I like to set myself up for success. Not last in an event would make me happy my first time out. As much as I have wanted to do this I am yet to try it. Anyone wanna explain the test and tune? Id like to go but since it would require a second day off AND a second trip out to ACC not sure if I would be able to go. I really wanna be there for the school to get pointers so I guess I will have to make it somehow.

test and tune is a day for guys to test their cars and see where they are at due to the starting of the season, it is also a helpful beginner day alot of the veterans of auto x are there and willing to help the new guys out!

The school is good for beginners. Last time I was at one Byron made me instruct lol.
Last couple times they set up a skidpad with a person switching the exit arrow so you had to go right or left depending on what it said. Good excerise in looking ahead.
Braking drillls and various corners to learn the line.
Good times.

Who wants to let me drive their car???

My last RWD was a 80 crank HP subaru station wagon.     pretty much anything is powerful compared to that ol' bird.  I don't think there's a single stock WRX, LGT, or forester among us here, a shame I won't be able to go new hotness vs old flame.  I gotta get some learnin' on, that's for sure.

April 25th Test and Tune / Autocross school sign-up is now open.  If you're planning on attending please sign up; that way we can get a better handle on what we need to focus on at the event.

BTW - thanks to everyone that's been answering questions in the thread.  Much appreciated!

As of now, you can show up w/o being on the list.  We're just asking people who know they are coming to give us their names so we have a good idea as to head count.  We can probably handle at least 30 people (only up to 12 or so as of now), but once you get more than that for a school, it can be difficult to give everyone the seat time they desire or instruction they may request.  But I should also mention we've never had to turn anyone away before.

And 2008s T&T at mccarty had about 25 people signed up, but i think only a dozen showed up.  Those who were there got a lot of runs in.

T&T / beginners day= They have a short instruction session on the cones, what lying down cones mean, time penelties, working cones, etc, and they have instructors to ride with people and give them some pointers.  Ideal for first timers,
Also
You can bring your car, run it for practice.  There are no points or prizes awarded. Basically a good time to practice.

Ill be there with the mr2.  Shes still not looking super pretty, but shes running good.

"don't come in last" worked great for my my first few times out.  Also every time they said 'novice' I took lengthy mental notes.

I beg to differ.. My first time I went for a ride along in a stock baja and swore we were going to finish on the roof.. Almost left a brown streak... j/k Dave.. It was kinda scary though.

I also found it helpful to let someone else who has experience to run my car with me in it.  I learned I was baby'ing it too much

I don't think there's a single stock WRX, LGT, or forester among us here...

I know I don't go to very many meets, but jeez...

Unless you count a Saabaru 6 CD Changer and a Turbo Baja shift knob as "not stock".

Oh, and I might be up to spectate per some prodding from Lyndo, so if you see a rattly white forester on snow tires pull in, thats me.

Eric

Quote me now while I'm feeling good about it.  I've decided a WRX will be the vehicle that replaces the Jeep.  I can't see paying Evo prices or justifying purchasing a halfassed/beat to death example for the same asinine amount of money.  For an affordable, point to point, all-weather capable performance car, a wagon fits the bill.  A swapped wagon, even better.
