ultimately it's spoke design that matters. But for reference (you may already know):
OEM RS wheels - 16x7 53
my sold wheels- 16x7 48
and they both clear...

try entering a 2006 wrx. It might let you go smaller. or call tire rack and ask if they fit 2006 wrx.

I ended up getting some ugly ass sport edition F9s because the price was right wrapped in Protenza RE-01s....
