Last I was there there are no sticky weights to be had (read back in this thread for details)
that said, I need a set mounted and balanced too, I'm going to try to remember to call Napa tomorrow and see if they have any weights back in stock yet

Is there a "rally club" active on the RPI campus? I found word of one six years ago on the old MoHud website, apparently they helped with local TSD rallies.

Anyone know if this place is still around and kickin? My buddy is an RPI grad student and I'm trying to see if I can borrow him (aka his attachment to RPI) so I can get my WRX in there.

The club is still around and kicking. The problem is that school is pretty much wrapped up for the summer so they don't run regular shop hours any more.

When you say "regular shop hours", do you mean reoccurring scheduled hours? Or you mean they just aren't open at all unless there's a random unannounced event? I ask cause I can make time to get there if it'll be open, but if they just really close up until the fall then that's outta my hands I guess.

Also, what do they usually need when you reserve some time? Just the RPI ID and cash?

During the School year they run regular shop hours (Thursdays and Fridays 5pm to 9pm and Saturdays Noon to 5pm) that are open to Students, Faculty, Alumni, and the Local Community (That's you Unysoc). All you really need to do to get shop time is show up and have cash. The lift is typically first-come, first-served and you really can't make a reservation for it(or at least that was how it was done when I ran it). As far as summer time shop hours I don't believe there are any. You might get lucky and swing by when there's someone in there working on a personal project, but its really up to them if you will be allowed to work. I'll double check with some current members to see if they are planning anything for the summer. What kind of work are you planning on the WRX?

Awesome thanks for the info!!!! I thought you had to be a current student or alumni to use the shop, so knowing that it is open to the community I won't have to hold my RPI buddy hostage  :2funny:

For my WRX, I'm hoping to be solidifying a deal for a Perrin intake today, or if not today then probably sometime this summer (Wicked Big Meet). I don't have any tools yet so I'd be going for the ratchets and such and then one day maybe the lift for an exhaust.  My other buddy has an '07 Eclipse GT and he needs to get under his car to replace an O2 sensor.

hell man, you don't need a shop's worth of tools to put on an intake  :crazy2:
I'm betting it's maybe 2 sizes of sockets (if you have a heat shield) and a screwdriver.  I'm off work as of 8 minutes ago till the 29th if you end up getting it and want to come borrow some tools  :coolsmiley:

Well, tell you what.  I've been itching to get back in there and get back in touch with myself.  I usually don't have to leave the house for that, but this time it requires wrenches and a car.

I used to run shifts at RSAS years ago, back before the garage was overhauled in its pretty new paint scheme and new lift, tire machines and such.  Back when I had an MR2 that ran well, before WRX's were imported to the USA.  Did it for about 8 years and racked up a lot of shop time for myself, which I never cashed in and lost.  I'd be willing to run regular shifts again, if you can use them and people will be around to go to the shop.  I've spent the last 8 years running professional automotive service facilities as a service writer and parts guy.  Keeping an eye on RSAS a few times over the summer would be a pleasant change for me.   Let me know if you could use extra bodies to run shifts.  I could use a few member hours to work on my own vehicles here and there.

Not that it's available this weekend, but we have a two-post lift at home, along with a semi-stocked tool chest.  I've previously extended an offer to the UNYSOC peeps, though I'd want to meet you before we just toss a car on it.  Insurance and all that (also maybe just because its sorta more my father's than mine  ).  RPI's shop is undoubtedly better, but the option's there.

@daryl -  :-D I know I know. I just didnt want to bother anyone especially cause I'm a newbie when it comes to wrenches. Plus I know it can be a hassle trying to get schedules to line up.

@redroof2 - if I had the money to buy the parts, I'd love to hang at the RPI shop and install them all through the summer :) Unfortunately what you're talking about sounds like you might need a few extra people onboard than just myself, so I'll leave this one up to the rest of the forum members.

@hydro - right on! Thanks for the offer.  I'd be happy to meet up and shoot the sh** before you opened your gear to me.  I've already met with Daryl(kavik) once, and Jake (hookedontronics) a few times if that helps my real-life cred  8-). I'm hoping to get to a UNYSOC meet/greet one of these days too.

Anyways at this very moment I don't even have anything to install because the guy I'm trying to buy the intake off of apparently only uses the computer once a day maximum :(.  I haven't heard back from him yet since I said I'd take it.  I'll keep everyone posted! (and my friend still does need a lift to get under his eclipse!)

Does Advance/AutoZone rent ratchets (I honestly don't know)?  You could at least do your intake, get a feel for working on a rex.

I'd be willing to do it once a week, or once every other week for starters this summer, as work allows.  Figure the shifts were usually run 4 or 5pm till 9-10pm on Thurs and Fri,  10am to 4pm on Saturdays.  That's how it used to be.  Also used to have chips for tool borrowing, IIRC.  You get 4 or 5 chips, you can take out 4 or 5 tools at a time.  Easiest thing - bring your own ratchet and sockets.  Saves time that way.

Anyway, I'd be interested to see how things are being run these days.  Hopefully people are working to keep the shop clean.  I hate when people leave a mess behind.
